I am about to start my third year in July and was wondering on everyone's thoughts if I lived 30-40 min away from my rotation site. The drive is 32 min without traffic but more like 40 minutes in traffic. The reason I am considering this option instead of living closer to the hospital is that I could room with a good friend rather than live alone, closer to the hospital but in a more rural area.

Any thoughts on whether the commute would be doable?

My commute is 25-30 minutes, and it gets old real quick. Are you doing all of your rotations there?

Yes all my rotations will be there. I have had a 25 min commute to school for the first two years and was fine with the drive.

What time did you have to be at school for class though? Even an extra 10-15 minutes at 5/6am gets old quick.

Its obviously doable. Do you want to do it is a different question.

That’s not a bad commute. It’s personal preference. Though med school and residency I’ve always lived between 30-40ish minutes away. It’s been fine for me and I’ve loved my living locations. I value where I live and my time outside the hospital so it’s important to me to live in a place I love.
