I'm attending NYMC this fall. The issue I have is this: I've been living with my boyfriend for the past two years, so we're used to seeing each other pretty often (we live in Queens, nyc). He works in Manhattan, and is willing to relocate to the north Bronx, where we could be by the subway. He is reluctant to move to White Plains, where he'd have a longer commute and have to shell out another 200 bucks for the railroad. I, on the other hand, am very reluctant to live more than a 15 minute drive from school (according to our internet research, it would take 30 min not including traffic from the north Bronx to Valhalla). Are there any NYMC students here who could comment on having an hour commute (total) each day? Is it a horrible idea? I like the idea of having a place nearby to crash and being immersed in med school life but maybe it would be nice to go home to someone not involved in the craziness that is med school????

I commuted from northern Manhattan for 2 years. Not a problem. 25 minutes in the morning, about 45-60 in the afternoon (if you try to avoid the toll). PM/email me if you have specific q's

Depends where you live in the Bronx, but someplace like Riverdale area is very convenient (plus you don't have to take a toll since you'd be living on the other side of the Henry Hudson Bridge). Very fast, should take you about 25 minutes or less to get up to Vahalla. Do a map quest search and drive the commute yourself sometime. The Saw Mill Parkway is the MOST DIRECT ROUTE TO Westchester Medical Center / NYMC.

The Major Degan is good too, cuz' you'll be going the other way (out of the city) in your morning commute.

(I go to a different medical school, but am familiar with the area / use to be a research assistant up at NYMC.)

good luck!
