How difficult is it commuting to U of M (traffic, parking, etc)? My fiance will either be going to Wayne State or Oakland University for grad school, so our options would be halfway between Ann Arbor and downtown Detroit (Plymouth, Canton, Livonia) , or halfway between Ann Arbor and Rochester Hills (Novi/Farmington Hills/Northville?).

Where would be a potentially good place to live between U of M and Oakland with reasonable commutes?

I commute every day from off campus. Just find a "park and ride lot" and take a bus that will drop you off 100 yards from the SOD. Its Free! or you can pay around 900 dollars/year for a pass that will let you park right at the school.

How far do you commute from? I have a relative in Northville and I think it's about 20 min or so, is that true? I'm also considering a commute.

Lavonia, Novi, even the most west side of westbloomfield are good mid-way points between the two.

HOWEVER, these places aren't cheap
