There are pressures to increase documentation of resident competencies in medicine. In order to accomplish this, we must develop tools to assess, document, and demonstrate competencies in training physicians.

One of ways we could open up discussion and disseminate information and tools about teaching and assessing the competencies would be to "ask the experts". Since we are all "experts" (just on different subjects), I would welcome any questions about how we are managing the ACGME mandate at the University of Iowa.

I want to express a special Welcome to Dr. Andrew Lee. He runs a medical student ophthalmology interest group at the University of Iowa and is an advocate for medical student and resident education! Dr. Lee is also a leader in the field of neuro-ophthalmology.
