Hi. I have been complete at most schools for over 2 months. If I don't hear anything from them soon, does that mean automatic rejection or do they still have to send me a letter to confirm that?

Thanks.

You'll get two responses to this question:
a) You've probably been passed over once or twice already, so you're probably not an ideal candidate at the school. Expect rejection or possible interview at a later time.

b) the school works slow. your file hasnt been looked at yet. you still have a chance.

Just tossing in my personal experience here. I've been complete at most schools since end of August and I've only heard from five of sixteen. (A couple rejections, a couple interviews, and mostly a whole lotta nothin'.) I think we're not in the top 20% cut that they're interviewing now, but I have no doubt there will be a bunch of decisions made at the end of December once they have all the applications in. Don't count yourself out until then.

You have given the most realistic response about this topic yet. A lot of schools are only interviewing a small group of pre-med "rock stars", and after December will be well more invites than in the months before.

Just wanted to chime in that I too have been complete at most of my 30 schools since end of August-early September. (With the exception of UCSF, whose secondary I received about 10 weeks after AMCAS completion.) So far, three rejections, a few screened secondaries, and one hold.

Otherwise, silence and "under review" status messages from the remaining 20-25.

Fingers still crossed!

would some of you mind posting your stats?

I'm in the same boat... Granted some of my apps weren't complete until the second week of September bc of rec letter issues, but most were complete by mid- Aug. I've had 2 rejections, and 3 interviews... that means silence from 17 schools. I know everyone keeps saying that there is still hope, but its so hard to stay positive. good luck to everyone

I'm in that boat too! Hope we're heading somewhere nice 🙂

I was complete late august/early september at all of my 20 ish schools, haven't heard back from 15 of them, nothing at all, just..silence. 🙁 My stats are a evenly distributed 34 mcat, and a 3.9/3.8 GPA/BCPM from Hopkins.

Here's hoping we get some news soon!

I got two interviews out of the 17 allopathic schools I applied to so far, two rejections, and two holds. Nothing else since being complete in late August. Here's to more interviews!

I will admit I have only been complete since late September, so it's only been about a month.
BUT I have heard NOTHING. AT ALL. COMPLETE SILENCE. From 20 schools. So far, I'm taking no news to be good news.
33S, 3.8 GPA

Try being complete at all your schools since the last week of JULY and the first week of august...there is like 15 schools i havent heard a peep out of.

...if you got your apps complete in september i dont think you should be allowed to post on here! cause thats not that long ago.

4.0/37 from a large state school
Complete early September with 3 interviews, 1 Mayo rejection, and complete silence otherwise.

Shrug

Just as I was typing this I got an email from the University of Washington. Interview! YAAY!!!

Been 2 months since I completed too, so far a couple rejection and 1 hold...33O 3.72 here. Although i want to tell you to relax and not to worry, I am freaking out myself. *sighs*

Tomorrow's November? Haha, just kidding. Fair enough.

Heh, we haven't (for the most part) been officially accepted, officially invited to interview, or officially rejected....so none of those other threads hold much for us. Hehe, maybe we should name this the "Unofficial silence thread"

Yeah, there's something uncomfortable about silence. It makes you feel like you put all this effort and all your applications just went out into la-la land and don't really exist.

OK, I'll stop complaining. I know "it's a long process" and we "need to be patient." 🙂

Haha, of course, but let's face it, we're all hard-working, multi-tasking, perhaps slightly compulsive-obsessive, premeds, and having absolutely nothing to do at this point that can affect the process is unnerving, or is that just me?

But yes, patience is good. But since I'm getting close to running out of that, I'll have to settle for plan b: distraction. Maybe I'll start my Christmas shopping...hehehe

I am in the same boat as you (except I was complete early August)... and I take it your from California also. Best of Luck to you. I haven't heard anything from any of the UC's except a rejection from UCSF.

I was complete everywhere in early September... haven't heard a single word since then from 15 schools.

And I got 3 interview invites within 2 weeks of one another.. my last interview invite was over 5 WEEKS ago 🙁

Is anyone calling/e-mailing/contacting schools just to ask what's up with your app? Good idea? Bad idea?

I've been told by several pre-med advisers that, as a general rule, do not call a school about your status until you have been "under review" for 10 weeks or more. Additionally, don't call more than once, since schools don't like to be pestered.

I know it is easy to panic if you haven't heard anything in a while (I have been having the "I'm d00med!" dreams for a while now), but just remember that there are a ton of other people with similar stats in exactly the same boat as you are. Just to throw my situation out there to ease any anxiety of others:

Applied to 21 MD schools w/ 3.2GPA/32Q MCAT: 1 interview, 3 rejections, 1 hold. The rest have stayed silent. I have been complete at all schools for around 7-10 weeks.

Submitted 13 secondaries, have four interviews. 5 of the remaining schools are top tier/very selective -- so I figure they didn't like what they saw by this point. My IS school is extremely slow, but I expect (or at least hope) to get an invite from them. That leaves the other 3 mid-range schools which I'm assuming have given me the thumbs down.

But then again... what do I know?

Thx for the advice... it's just so nerve wracking to get multiple interviews within days of each other, then all of a sudden...nothingness... for weeks and weeks...it's cold out here... 🙁

i was complete at a school since late july, and got an invite today sooo...no news is not always bad news 🙂

I gave up on calling schools to see about my status because they just say don't call back... thats its "under review". no kidding.

Lot of silence here, too. Been complete starting the middle of October (i know, not horribly long) and I have 1 interview, 1 rejection (from Hawaii) and lots of "___________." Hopefully I get some more action soon!!

Stats: 3.5 gpa from an ivy, 3.91 master's gpa, 35R MCAT

Not necessarily... Many schools only interview through March. That puts you with January, February, and March after December, which is just about equivalent to October, November and December. And some schools interviewed in September as well. So there may, in fact, be fewer interviews after December than in the months before.

However, they're probably much more likely to interview 'average' applicants in the spring semester, since they'll likely have interviewed all of the outstanding applicants by December.

Is anyone calling/e-mailing/contacting schools just to ask what's up with your app? Good idea? Bad idea?

I was thinking about it for Cornell, but that's just cause my school e-mail is freaking out on me, and their status page is apparently broken still. So I don't really want to miss an invite.

At times like this, I like to make like Ricky Bobby...

Dear 8lb, 6oz baby [god name of your choice], please let me into a med school..."

Going on 1.5 months.

I still haven't gotten secondary requests from 2 UCs. I'm expecting rejection, but the silence at that stage has me unnerved.

Only heard from one school at this point for an interview (Vanderbilt). I think that is because the screen for interview before the secondary. All the other schools I haven't heard anything from yet. I made it through the secondary screens at most except one (OOS at Marshall). Other then that it has been like everyone else, dead silence. I have a 3.94BCPM, 3.73 undergrad GPA, 4.0 Masters and a 33Q MCAT.

Bump this thread ... my last interview invite was in mid September...

25 apps
some complete in july
rest complete in august
3 rejections (spread out)
GW hold
4 interview invites -- sept
gap
2 more interview invites -- oct
gap
1 interview invite a week ago (3 months after complete)
of 14 left, hope for a trickle of a couple more over the next few months

I have been complete at most schools since late July-early August...

I've had 4 interviews, a few rejections, couple of holds, but other than that, I have had complete silence from about 25 schools for almost 3 months now!

to put it all into perspective, I'm a re applicant, was complete LAST year at around late August/early September and I did not hear back until MARCH, where I interviewed at one school, eventually being wait listed. After much, much waiting, I was not accepted and now I am applying again in this cycle. I was complete at in August and to my luck again, no word form any schools, only one rejection from georgetown and one hold from GWU (I did apply to 30). So, yea, this sucks, but hey, you all could get an interview notifcation in March, and maybe still have a shot 🙄

and to everyone else PLEASE, be happy that you at least got a couple of interviews, all it takes is one. I would kill to have at least 2 interviews right now...I feel like some of you are just so ungrateful for the interviews that you do have...just know there are some people that been waiting for 2 or more years just to get at least one interview.

you are so right. i hope this thread and others are not disrespecting the position you are in.

very best of luck to you. i bet it will work for you this year. did you apply to some different schools from last year.

thank you,

last yea i only applied to about 10 schools, This year, however, i went all out and applied to 30. Also, I made a new account, I used to be be a big poster on SDN before, decided it was time for a change in names...

10 to 30 is a huge difference. i applied to 25 this year and have heard good or bad news from 11. they are a range of schools in terms of their stats as are the ones i haven't heard from.

if i had only applied to the 14 for which i have silence, i would have no interviews yet. and i was complete at most in july.

the process has some randomness built in because schools are looking for different things and we don't know what those things are. so applying to 30 is very smart.

Completed around mid sept- early oct... 2rejections, 1hold, and NOOOOOOO interviews.... mm

3.8/30(7 on vr), cali resident.... tough, i know.

Time for me to join - a whole lot of nothing, save for about 5 rejections (pre-interview). 25 more schools out in the ether.

Don't give up hope. Interview invites are definitely still out there, and I'm convinced that for the middle of the pack it is somewhat random when you are reviewed and get an invite. I just got an interview today at a school I've been complete at since the end of June. I had basically just resigned myself to wait and see. I'm not sure what else you really can do, but keep the faith and don't start second guessing yourself now; it really is not that late in the game.

I hope you're right Bonsai. I'm a middle of the packer that spent entirely too much time trying to track when each school would get to my application. I've stopped that and am content to check email once a day now. The stress really wasn't worth it. My 2 cents.

Updated my MDApps and added it to my signature, maybe it'll be helpful to others who applied late.

which school did you get the invite from? did you send any letter of update/letter of interest/ letter of recommendation during the time since u submitted your application?

Shejeboshease, I got the interview from Washington University in St. Louis (top choice). The interesting thing is that I actually sent them a letter of update/interest late last week, but with the fact that yesterday was a postal holiday, I did the math and I think it's impossible that they even got the letter before giving me the invite, let alone read it and let it have any sort of influence. So, if you have something substantial to update, say it, but I'm not sure it makes a big difference.

it's pretty funny how 90% of the people replying in this thread have killer stats (3.7+ gpa, 30+ mcats) and they're still whining for more interviews. it just shows that most of the competitive students post at SDN - the more average applicants are unaware of this site. don't be so greedy ya nerds! and withdraw after an acceptance... people like me are still waiting with nothing.

bonsai, post this over on the "interview hiatus" thread. people will love this story over there.

I have been in the same boat guys. Applied to 11 schools (31S, 4.0), 2 quick rejections (Vanderbilt/Mayo) and one interview invite about 4 weeks ago. Then.... :scared: someone give me some hope

At nearly 50 schools, I was complete around 8/30 and I've only received 1 interview and was placed on a hold afterwards.

By the numbers, I've gotten 16 rejections and 4 pre-interview holds. I haven't been given secondaries or notified of complete status at another 6 schools and I'm still waiting on news from 29 schools.

complete since the end of august or sooner...applied to 12 MD schools. 31R/3.37GPA/3.19BCPM

No love from RWJ or NJMS ... not even a "hey thanks for giving us your money your application made a nice liner in our bird cage"

Patience is a virtue...kinda.
