Good Afternoon -

I'm interested in knowing if anyone has had experience with UNE. Do medical schools frown if some prereqs are completed via UNE?

Thoughts?

Phewww..... I would be real hesitant to take Bio and Chem classes online. Both of these traditionally require a lab section that is critical to future courses. Would you have to attend physical labs or just some online version?

When you say that you contacted the 'state school', was it the medical school specifically or just the college/university associated with it? I've found (another rural resident) that general college admission and registrar types are happy to accept the credits, but they don't understand the medical school pre-reqs. If you do opt to take these you must be ABSOLUTELY certain that the medical school will accept them. If they say yes, try to get it in writing. I would hate for this to bite you in a couple years when you go to apply.

Good Afternoon -

I live very rurally in a remote state. I want to attend an MD program; specifically, in-state at the MD program my state sponsors which is a stellar program with ~30% acceptance rate for residents who apply (and only accepts residents into the program). I am wondering if anyone has taken classes to fulfill prereqs with UNE Online? I'm looking at taking a combination of in-person and online courses, but I'm very restricted by my location. I like that the UNE courses give you 16-months to complete and thus, you are able to pace yourself and complete based on your schedule. This is important for me, as I'll be likely working during this time. I'm looking at taking two classes through the local college that are taught 50/50 distance/online this fall (biology and chem 1) and thinking about adding in physics 1 but through UNE.

I'm interested in knowing if anyone has had experience with UNE. Do medical schools frown if some prereqs are completed via UNE? I've already checked with the state school and they said: "Since University of New England is regionally accredited, we will be able to accept them towards fulfilling the premedical course requirements. If the online or in person courses are regionally accredited, we will be able to accept them. There will be no difference."

Thoughts?

My understanding is that certain medical schools allow some online prerequisites (typically humanities and English) but I haven’t heard of any that accept online lab courses. Some schools are moving away from having specific coursework prerequisites in lieu of “competencies”, but usually there’s still an expectation that applicants will have lab experience. Are you 100% sure your state medical school is OK with online lab courses?

Thank you for letting me know this. Are you currently enrolled in an MD program? Did you feel prepared for the MCAT and prepared for the rigor of medical school?

I expect online classes to be more self-learning, but I think that is a plus if you're able to do well in the classes and kill the MCAT. I think it shows a lot of initiative and drive.
Yes x3. The MCAT takes a lot of preparation outside of normal classes, whether you take them in person or online. No one will give you kudos for taking online classes, but if the only choices are to take them online or not apply to medical school, you have to do what you have to do.

@quarters I think you tried to message me before about my experience at HES, was that where you started your summer postbac? You didn't have a good experience there?
