So after watching the new vice documentary about killing cancer(http://killingcancer.vice.com/) I decided to look up the fellowship program of one of the featured programs and found this

http://www.mdanderson.org/education...education/eligibility-requirements/index.html

At minimum applicants with a M.D. degree or its foreign equivalent must have completed USMLE Step I and USMLE Step II CK & CS. At minimum applicants with a D.O. degree or its foreign equivalent must have completed all three parts of the COMPLEX exam. Additionally, all applicants must have passed each step/part/level of a licensure examination (i.e. USMLE or COMPLEXii) within three (3) attempts.

I would say that having the USMLE is a necessity to match at that program.

As soon as you read the "COMPLEX" spelling, you start to question if it is just a typo or they really don't have a clue as to how the COMLEX levels work. It only takes five minutes of research on google to figure out how the levels correlate with what year the osteopathic student is in.

It seems like a typo, if you read further in the application procedures, they have COMLEX

No, the info states (with typo) applicants can have either USMLE or COMLEX. I have DO graduates successfully compete for residency against MD grads with COMLEX only

WRONG!!! You need a COMPLEX exam...which is the USMLE. A little redundant...but...

I'm joking. Sorry.

I have had 2 separate PD's call it the COMPLEX. It would be funny if it weren't so tragic.

Thank you for clarifying Naval Flight Surgeon.

You a Naval Doctor? when you guys specialize, you really specialize!

lol. I'm a PCM for a squadron. Flight Surgeon is a misnomer. I have completed an internship and have since been a PCM. My commitment is now up and I am applying to civilian PM&R residencies.

It seems like a typo, if you read further in the application procedures, they have COMLEX

Yeah I did see that. My issue was that they stated all three of the COMLEX need to be completed. Do they mean up to level 3 needs be complete or do the three parts mean both portions of the COMLEX level 2 and level 1? It is like they got really lazy once they described the requirements for DOs.

As I Missouri resident I have looked up residencies at University of Missouri (Mizzou) and they have the typo COMPLEX on many applicant pages. And they also allow visiting students do rotations there from LCME and "LCOME" schools. I figured they meant COCA schools, either way I found this funny.

In a couple years I will take the usmle so they don't get confused by my COMLEX/COMPLEX scores 🙂
