I need to take this out of my chest...!!

I've always loved working with computers, whether it's software or hardware, and I like to learn languages such as XHTML, CSS, PHP for coding and web design, Photoshop and Illustrator for graphics design and databases such as MySQL. Most of my peers (if not all 😛) at school don't even care about computers except like for typing and facebook, so I feel like I am the only one that has great interest in computers other than just concentrate in pharmacy and its sciences. This sometimes make me feel like a loser, no life, out of place kinda person 😛.

Any of pharm ppl have any interest in the computer/IT world?? Anything of that sort as a hobby?

So much so, I have a small computer business when I'm not at the pharmacy. Hardware software, security, custom programming.

heh I still do work for the company I left, after 9 years of computer stupport and 12 years total doing IT work. I have my own little nix box I tinkered with all summer long but I have to pack it up because I'll get working on something and 8 hours will have passed, it's 4am and class starts at 8.

I occasionally take small network design jobs to make some extra cash. I'm Gadget Boy at school and get regular requests for help with things computer related.

I'm not completely computer illiterate, I can do most things on my own but I just had to uninstall iTunes 8. My iPod wasn't syncing and my computer would experience unexpected shutdowns. Program's gone. Problem's gone.
Now if only I could get my computer to recognize my iPod.

yes and no.

sometimes, all i want to do after fixing and working with applications and databases all day, all i want to do is read blogs and cruise facebook.

other times.....well, i HATE vista, so i'm going to start using a dual-boot config with vista/linux. if i dont like that i will probably dual-boot vista/XP.

and, i'm working on oracle certification, so sometimes i even study nerdy things! after pharmacy school, studying really doesnt phase me any more....eight-credit classes really build up a callous. but, i do have an oracle reference that's easily as big as a dipiro's! 😀

There are so many opportunities in public health or medical informatics. Professional side: Electronic health records (EHRs), decision support, algorithms, disease management programs, etc. The other side is the consumer side: personal health records (PHRs) like Google Health, WebMD, etc.

It was my life... Loved computers... Got a degree in software engineering... GOt a good job at a HUGE company... Did it for over 3 years but got burnt out on computers, cubicals, and company politics.

Ended up getting laid off when this Huge company opened up office in India and began hiring engineers at probably 1/20 the salary.

Decided to switch careers and really like pharmacy. I don't love it but it is so much easier to deal with then my previous job. It's never boring... don't have to take my work home and don't get paid salary(get paid by the hour) don't have cubicals, don't have to attend useless meetings, not much politics, and don't have deadlines where I have to pull all nighters.

Most of all I have job security.

A lot of people tell me I should use both careers and go into some sort of IT pharmacy job... I dunno it sounds interesting but at same time the grass is not always greener. There are a lot of hospitals looking for this type of position... i don't know anyone with this type of position would be interesting to hear from someone with pharmD doing computer stuff.

I thought I was the only one that HATES Vista! That system is horrible and I have to deal with students and their Vista problems on a daily basis. I love when I have to say WE DON"T SUPPORT VISTA, SORRY LOL

For IT pharmacist, which is more important? Since both of these can take a lot of time and resource.

Hi
NIce to find someone who has similar interests as mine. I also love working with computers, whether it's software or hardware, and I know languages such as XHTML, CSS, PHP for coding and web design, Photoshop and even Adobe Flash.
So enjoy the life of computers . It is really fun.

I don't do much, but what I do is hardware oriented. One of these days I'll sit down and learn the software side. Doing hardware is easy when most of it's plug and play. Hardest thing I've had to do is redo jumper settings when adding master/slave configs.
