COMQUEST for COMLEX Step II?

Has anybody used COMQUEST specifically for the COMLEX Step 2 before? I think they're new but please PM me if you've used the questions. I saw a banner in one of the forums and contacted them through their site (www.comquestmed.com) today to see how many questions they have and if I could see their test software. I got the following response just now: "Our COMLEX Level 2-CE question bank currently has 877 questions and our Level 3 has about 860. While we will be adding more questions in the near future, we are focusing on quality control of our current questions and software...we prefer not to put demos." Sounds pretty good. Anybody? I think I will take the plunge.

I just bought it to check it out since there are only 800 questions and I can do those before my test next week. The quaity of the questions are definitely better than COMBANK and resemble the COMSAE much moreso. But there are major problems.

Their server is so slow that it's not ever worth purchasing. I've had no problems with speed with any other Qbank including COMBANK which some have trouble logging onto. Also, you can't save an exam so when you click "Next" and it times out, you lose that entire question set and you can't refer back to it later(it doesn't save it), it's just lost! It's literally taken 2-3 minutes to load between questions.

True but for those of us trying to finish the entire question bank as quickly as we can, it does us no good to repeat questions we already did. Imagine doing a 50 question block and on question 37, the page goes blank. When you refresh the page or log back in, there is no history of that question set. You lost all your work. As of now, it's not keeping track of which questions I finished so when I try to create a new exam and I select "unused" questions, it still shows "0" on every category...frustrating!

I'm rather torn because it's user friendliness is a grade F and it's quality of its questions is an A+. There are a lot of glitches. I've never complained about COMBANK with regards to user friendly aspects so if people think COMBANK is tough to use, I would like know how they would feel about this one.

It was $75 for 30 days which is cheaper than COMBANK. It's worth checking out, you may not experience the same technical difficulties I did.

Regarding server time: We are currently testing multiple servers to ensure that questions and answer choices are loaded quickly. The current server has too much variation ranging from very slow to lightning fast. We will be deciding on the best server for this case in approximately ten days.

Regarding timing out or losing internet service while taking an exam: The system times out or logs out after 60 minutes of idle time or if an account is logged on simultaneously from different locations. The current software that is being worked on will save the test if any of these issues occur. You will then be able to resume the next time you log-on. This is being worked on currently and will be available shortly.

Regarding unused questions: This bug was already reproduced by our technical support team and is currently being worked on.

Creating an exam: In some instances, the # of questions per exam must be changed to load up an exam. This is due to the cases at the end of the test that are made to coincide with the COMLEX. This is currently being worked on.

We have a comment button on the bottom of each question that our customers may also use to alert us regarding a possible problem. While we have received excellent feedback from our customers regarding our questions, we anticipate a very small number of questions that require correction and are actively going through the latest batch of questions.

In the meantime, the subscription gives you full access to our questions and explanations with the above considerations. The points that customers have mentioned here are all being ironed out and we hope to be at full capacity within a few weeks. We will update each point as it becomes ready. The only comparison we can make is to the actual COMLEX and we have put in extensive research and time to create a question bank that adequately prepares you for the COMLEX. The customers who have used our question database and test interface would be better suited to make further comparisons to other companies. Please let us know if you have any product specific questions and we will gladly answer them.

The reason I like their questions better than COMBANK is because I feel their style more closely represents what we will see on the real exam. I base that on it's similarity to the COMSAE exams I've taken and old NBOME exams I've seen. The questions are more challenging and deliberately vague. I feel the COMBANK is also a good tool albeit a little too easy in my opinion. For example, the COMQUEST has medical ethics questions that use these strange legal terms I've never heard about but the ones on COMBANK provide obvious examples:ie the correct answer is "Don't yell at the patient and tell him you will see him tomorrow in the office." Although they include 3rd order style questions, they are still COMLEX-style and not representative of UW or Kaplan so it's not a knock off of UW or Kaplan. I hope they address these problems soon because the question bank seemed excellent.

Yes, I agree with this. If you remember, I was the one who complained about the user friendliness. I always thought the questions were great but it had some technical glitches. Well, they have addressed and corrected those problems. They are very responsive and polite. And this might be a small point but the actual look or design of the frame etc looks exactly like the COMLEX which is a nice touch designed to look as similar to the COMLEX as possible. And they have the multistep question format. For example, they have over 100 GI questions. If you do the entire GI bank, the last 30 or so questions are multi step which is similar to the real COMLEX.

I agree with the recent posts. I give them an A+ on questions, A on software, and A+ on customer service. It appears that they corrected all of the glitches. Here is my experience so far about halfway through the question bank:

Bad
- Some spelling and grammatical errors. To their credit though, they correct them and emailed me right after I used the comment button.

Good
- Medical Jurisprudence / ethics section
- Good OMM questions
- Take home messages are very helpful
- Plenty of EKGs
- Very good, in depth explanations as to why the right answer is correct and why the wrong ones are wrong.
- The staff has been so responsive to my suggestions and they are very appreciative and excited about this question bank (as the other posters mentioned)
- By far, the most representative of the COMLEX when compared to the other question banks
- The questions are really well written and geared for the COMLEX. The format and subject focus is very similar to previous COMLEX exams I have taken (as the other posters mentioned)
- The test interface is really impressive and similar to the COMLEX
- I get a discount on COMLEX Level 3 after my Level 2 expires
- They keep us informed on what they are planning to do next and really appreciate our feedback. For example, they are now implementing a system to compare how we are doing compared to other COMQUEST subscribers.*

They really encourage us to give feedback to them and I believe they will soon become the best question bank for the COMLEX.

just subscribed, impressed so far with this qbank.

I'm using it in tutor mode. Not sure why, just seems that for now it is better as a true learning tool, whereas I have used and am using UWorld for learning, diagnostic, and "test prep" (i.e. getting the feel again of timed blocks). Perhaps it's because I'm only 2 weeks out from test time and feel the need to go through the questions and explanations a little quicker.

Good explanations, and I like the fact that they are a bit briefer and more "to the point" than UWorld explanations. UWorld has as much info as a primary resource, but often I just want the nuts of why the answer is correct... often when I've narrowed it down to two, know "most" of the info about the disease or whatever, but am not sure about the "next best" step or treatment or whatever. Don't want to read a page to fish out the one piece I couldn't quite remember. ComQuest makes it easier to go quickly with questions that you are either mostly sure about or have narrowed down to two based on knowledge, not pure guessing.

Oh, and anyone notice that the "average" percentage listed after the explanation runs very, very low?

Most are in the 15-25% range. The highest I saw in 100 questions was 39% for a pure giveaway. Any thoughts, or comments from the ComQuest people? Is that really representative of the average correct responses from users so far? Does it mean something else? Math screwed up?

I have to say that I really enjoy using comquest and i think it has the most accurate focus on what STep 2 tests on. I sincirely think it's the best comlex qbank there for step 2.

I wish I had known about it when i first took step 2, and I may not be in the unfortunate circumstance of re-taking it...

I feel better prepared this time, so hopefully it works out to my benefit

I would def get comquest if you're taking the comlex.

I've been using their qbank for the past month and it's awesome. I haven't taken step 2 yet, but compared to comlex 1 - the question style is dead on. I'll be sure to post my opinion once I take step 2.

What I really liked are the jurisprudence questions (apparently written by a medical school law professor), and the family practice-oriented respiratory questions. Those are the type of questions I have not seen on UWorld, and are really important for the comlex. Also, when you do the OMM questions, they have a strategy that makes sacral diagnosis a no-brainer, which I wish I had during my first year of medical school.

I also noticed the spelling mistakes a while back but not really anymore - the customer support they've got is second to none. They've responded to my comments with a turn around of literally minutes. I can tell their #1 priority is making their customers most prepared for the comlex, rather than just making customers.

Yes, very open to feedback, and very receptive of suggestions on spelling, grammar, or other such mistakes. They were also receptive to more in depth feedback about whether salmonella really is the most common cause of osteo in SS patients.

I still wonder about the "average percentage" numbers at the bottom. I think after going through the entire question set, I may have seen a couple that broke 50%, and a few dozen in the 40's. Most were 20-30%. What's up with that?

Took it today, and felt like Comquest was certainly a big help. Probably equivalent to UWorld since it included a lot of osteopathic stuff and vague nbome style questions. A few questions on my exam would have certainly been missed if not for Comquest, as they weren't covered anywhere else.

But with 1/3 the questions of uworld, it just doesn't have quite the same scope or depth. And really, when you get down to it, no question bank can adequately prepare you for the vagueness, randomness, and poorly written questions on the Comlex.

I'll post a new thread highlighting my breakdown of today's Comlex and my experience. Maybe it will help a few over the hurdle.

So I just took comlex II today, and completed most of comquest (>90%) as of yesterday. Just fyi - the % correct data's been updated.

I'm really glad I spent a lot of hours with comquest, bc today I felt like I was back at home doing more comquest questions. The interface of quest is the same exact interface you'll see on test date. The questions were very representative of the TYPE of comlex questions overall. I've done only 50 questions on Combank, which were very well written as well, but their interface was completely different than the NBOME's blinding white and blue screen. The usmleworld questions were too well written to be representative of comlex questions, and the legal questions are not as hard as the ones you'll see on comlex.

Having said that, I'd say 9 out of 10 questions on OBGYN today were nearly identical to the ones from comquest. The jurisprudence and cardio on comquest were RIGHT on, as well as OMM, GI, respiratory. It was actually kind of scary yet reassuring to see very familiar questions. I have to say half my test was OMM today - and even though quest has an awesome strategy for sacral diagnosis and explains cranial well, you really need to spend a good amount of quality time with savarese to pick up the minutia you'd expect from step 1. There were a lot of anatomy questions I didn't expect to see.

Overall, the explanations on quest are brief, concise, yet easy to read and cover most of what you need to know. They let you know what's been high yield, and their comments are actually rather accurate. Would definitely use them again.

I used comquest as my study bank for the comlex and was satisfied with it as far as omm and ob/gyn especially. I decided to roll the dice with comquest even though combank is more established and I am so so endorsing comquest with no experience at with combank. The medico legal portion is difficult to judge because the comlex asks so many random questions. I was really disappointed to see questions about which Acts give patients their rights and so forth. There were also some poorly written questions on statistics. I'm not going to elaborate any more. I studied using UW and comquest only so we will see how it goes. I take the USMLE in 2 weeks from today so I have some more studying to do. Good luck to all.

I took the exam yesterday and COMQUEST should be required. I would say that I knew at least 50% of the questions on each section because of this. No, it wasn't the same questions but COMQUEST prepares you very well for the clinical science portion particularly OB, Pulmonary, and Cardiac. For example, I had a question on Myasthenia Gravis and the COMLEX didn't give me any clues as to what it was other than mentioning a Thymoma. On COMQUEST, I had a Myasthena Gravis question in the Musculoskeletal section that was similar so when I got that question, I knew the answer right off the bat. I also had a Neurology question in which a patient had an intracranial bleed and I had 3 intracranial bleed questions on the exam with nearly the same scenario. The COMQUEST does a great job presenting "what's the next step" questions. Their OB section is really outstanding. It's only 88 questions but I took notes on each one and it will prepare you better for the COMLEX than reading the entire OB Blueprints...no exaggeration.

To be fair and to show you that I don't work for COMQUEST, I will say that COMBANK was also a lot of help. I did the COMBANK as insurance. I heard a lot of bad things about it but I didn't want to go into the exam unprepared. I'm glad because COMBANK was as helpful as COMQUEST. You need to do them both. I had a lot of questions that I only got right because of COMBANK. I had the question about the Osborn wave and Hypothermia straight out of COMBANK. I also had a question about an obese person who had obstructive sleep apnea who required a sleep study. There were not a lot of straight or direct questions from COMBANK on the test but there were a lot nearly identical situations or concepts it taught that can help you answer a lot of the questions.

With regard to format, COMQUEST is practically identical. It offers the right length and style of questions. With regard to comprenhensiveness, COMBANK is better. If I had to choose to do only one, I would do COMQUEST hands down and probably do it twice and take notes.

I searched for more information about COMQuest after our Dean of Education Enhancement recommended it and all I can say is that I wish I knew about this thread earlier! The questions are really good and they often leave out the next best clinical step as an option – but they go on to explain what that step would be in their explanations and guide you on how to select the best answers from the options given. I also did UW and while it was a really good preparation for the shelf exams and provided a good foundation, it just isn’t geared for the COMLEX. Overall, I think COMQuest is great and would recommend it to anyone. The medlaw and ethics sections are really good too. I will report back after I take the test I can’t wait to be done with this and enjoy 4th year!

I don't know about this. Seems like you may have it mixed up with the USMLE. I've only heard of the CONLEX providing too little, or "not enough", information from people who took it. I feel that Comquest does a good job writing questions with just enough information to answer them and then their explanations go into a lot of detail about what you must know as opposed to "fluff" that only wastes time. I would say the length of questions is correct and I appreciate them making such s reflective question bank.

As silly as those one liners may seem, you will actually get those on the COMLEX particularly in the multi-step questions. I felt like those questions helped me the most. You have to quit thinking of the COMLEX as an objective exam and think of it like a foreign language. It has its own rules, and customs. The COMLEX writers assume certain information and a lot of the test is "guess what I'm thinking" The COMQUEST was the single best Qbank in regards to understanding how the COMLEX writers think. I thought those questions were really annoying and silly. When I took the exam, I realized how helpful those questions were

Scores came out today and I am qutie happy with my results! I did slightly better than Level 1 and a lot of it was thanks to this question bank. I agree with others who have said this is as good as it gets for the COMLEX. I wouldn't be surprised if they raise their prices because it is way better and more detailed than some of the other, more expensive question banks. Hope everybody else passed!

I'm gearing up to begin my step 1 studies next semester, and I'm curious if any of you who used it for step 2 think it would be a good idea to get for my step 1 studies? I'm thinking more for the type and style of questions more than the actual questions. I know I'll probably need to still add way more path, pharm and micro to it, etc.

Any opinions or suggestions so I do well on my step 1?

The only section that would do you any good is the OMM stuff. All of the other questions are not very useful for Step I, however they will come in handy for rotations.

Honestly, though, I wish I would have used COMQUEST for the OMM stuff when I took part I. Their explanation for sacral mechanics alone was worth the $75

I really liked this qbank it most mirrored the question style of the real thing and covered the same material. The only stuff I had on the exam that I don't recall seeing in Comquest were the statistics and research method questions I got.

I just got done with test and used Comquest for questions. I think I did fairly well 🙂xf🙂. The style and focus (and even some questions) were nearly identical and doing this qbank is probably enough to pass the test. They also tell you how you're doing against all of the other subscribers and I was right around the average. I got the most out of it when I went through the qbank the second time around. I had a lot of questions on material that Comquest explained in the explanations. The Cardio, OB/Gyn, Medical Jurisprudence, and GI were especially helpful. I would definitely recommend this qbank. i wanted to post some feedback regarding my use of COMQUEST for COMLEX II CE. i actually had to take the test twice (which i was completely shocked and utterly devastated when i found out that i had failed by 7 points). i am a student that had never failed a class, shelf exam, or any other board exam but what i think happened was i didn't study properly (and didn't dedicate enough study time as well) for this exam. this is NOT the USMLE and as much as i thought the USMLE world quests are excellent in terms of learning- doing only those will not prepare you the best for the test. (personal opinion). since COMQUEST is pretty new, i did not know about it during prep for the 1st exam. after reading about it on studentdoctor (thanks!) i relied on it during my repeat prep and found it extremely helpful!! i went through it twice, really taking my time with the questions, taking notes, etc. i also used FA for Step 2 and Secrets. for OMM, i used the Savarese green book and Cram Sheets. when submitting questions to the administrators, they are so prompt in answering back. the cost is unbeateable and i was very pleased with my result (safely passed, thank goodness!). i will definitely be using it again for COMLEX III.

if by chance you do fail the test, remember it is NOT the end of the world (even though at the time, i thought it was) and it is not a measure of your intelligence but instead think about how you can prepare the RIGHT way the next time to master the exam.

(personal opinion). since COMQUEST is pretty new, i did not know about it during prep for the 1st exam. after reading about it on studentdoctor (thanks!) i relied on it during my repeat prep and found it extremely helpful!! i went through it twice, really taking my time with the questions, taking notes, etc. i also used FA for Step 2 and Secrets. for OMM, i used the Savarese green book and Cram Sheets. when submitting questions to the administrators, they are so prompt in answering back. the cost is unbeateable and i was very pleased with my result (safely passed, thank goodness!). i will definitely be using it again for COMLEX III.

if by chance you do fail the test, remember it is NOT the end of the world (even though at the time, i thought it was) and it is not a measure of your intelligence but instead think about how you can prepare the RIGHT way the next time to master the exam.

So I just took comlex II today, and completed most of comquest (>90%) as of yesterday. Just fyi - the % correct data's been updated.

I'm really glad I spent a lot of hours with comquest, bc today I felt like I was back at home doing more comquest questions. The interface of quest is the same exact interface you'll see on test date. The questions were very representative of the TYPE of comlex questions overall. I've done only 50 questions on Combank, which were very well written as well, but their interface was completely different than the NBOME's blinding white and blue screen. The usmleworld questions were too well written to be representative of comlex questions, and the legal questions are not as hard as the ones you'll see on comlex.

Having said that, I'd say 9 out of 10 questions on OBGYN today were nearly identical to the ones from comquest. The jurisprudence and cardio on comquest were RIGHT on, as well as OMM, GI, respiratory. It was actually kind of scary yet reassuring to see very familiar questions. I have to say half my test was OMM today - and even though quest has an awesome strategy for sacral diagnosis and explains cranial well, you really need to spend a good amount of quality time with savarese to pick up the minutia you'd expect from step 1. There were a lot of anatomy questions I didn't expect to see.

Overall, the explanations on quest are brief, concise, yet easy to read and cover most of what you need to know. They let you know what's been high yield, and their comments are actually rather accurate. Would definitely use them again.

PRAISE GOD! AMEN I PASSED! Just got my score tonight!

I used COMQUEST and highly recommend it! I did score a lot less (43 pts) less on this test than my step 1, but I honestly can not tell you why.....I don't ever normally have a great set study plan and I tend to study hard for a bit, then lax off and then push it again before a test, so I don't know if my score is reflective of that or not. All I know is that I felt like the first 200 questions were very hard and i was lost. Took my lunch and then the next 200 Questions I felt were more like I remembered for step 1 and felt very comfortable with them.
I also took the COMSAE and I highly recommend taking that before the actual test. If you dont pass that, and its only a few days till the COMLEX then I would push it back. If you pass the COMSAE there is a high correlation of passing the step 2 as well. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. Im just very blessed and so very thankful because it couldve turned out different and I know that these tests do not mean anything in the way of what kind of a doctor you are going to be, nor how intelligent you are. My best to everyone! And the most important piece of advice I can give is to remain positive. Fake it till you make it if you have to, but remain optimistic speaking faith filled words and trust that you have all you need to be successful. Your mindset plays so much into all this I believe. COMQuest is a good question bank for certain topics like OMM, medical jurisprudence and hematology. It follows the format of the real exam very closely and is helpful.

Having done all of Comquest, and a good chunk of Combank, I thought I'd share my thoughts on the two. I haven't taken level II yet, so I can't compare to the real thing.

Comquest: Better questions, more thought out, more difficult. Better software. Less questions (~850.) Better, more to the point explanations that address all answer choices.

Combank: Too easy at time, maybe more like real thing but not good for learning. More questions (~1200), both overall and OMM. Software has a lot of glitches, might just be my mac though. $10 more, however there are discount codes online if you search. Explanations sometimes only basically state why the right answer is right, while disregarding incorrect choices.

Overall, if you had to pick between them, I would have to go with Comquest. I will update when I take the real thing, although I have read that Comquest is also more realistic.

Speaking of glitches ... just went through a set of 50 that pretty much altered my answer choice to "D" ... i didnt pick up on it till half way, and then paused to re-adjust my answers - annoying. It's also slower. Also, incorrect answers as well ... there's a ton of random minutae at times too ... I guess COMLEX may be that way too though - not taken it so I dunno. COMBank is easier but due to my f*ckups, I keep gettin round 68, oh well ... im not the best of test-takers due to my need to screw up easy Q's ...

70% is considered ok and 80%+ is good. It's hard to know how COMQuest compares to the real exam unless you did all the exams in timed mode like the real exam

I'm wondering if it will go through the entire bank a second time if I select 'all' (so that each question is completed twice) or if questions will repeat (so i'll end up doing one question 3-4 times but others only one time the second time through). You can probably just one exam of like 850 questions and then it wont repeat. Or if you paid for 60 days or more I think they can reset it for you.
