Holy Molly! This thing was like $250 bucks 😱 I paid it but is this a one time fee for all accepted schools or will it be a per school fee?

It said $250 for me and thats the receipt. I did find the list of schools that participate in the program, but what if I gain admission to school not on that list. Do I have to shell out more $$$ for background checks? 😡
 
Ughhh so I guess this e-mail is legit?? I don't want to provide information/money but I guess if other people got this email it's not a scam.

my school emailed me telling me that I would need to do the background check.
I guess different schools have different services. My service was $250, which is OK as long as I dont have to do this per school.
 
I got the email too but I figured I'd get to it tomorrow... but we have to pay for it???:scared:

Yup it says students must pay 🙁 it makes sense once you go back to school you wind up paying for everything. usually when you get a full time job, an employer will pay for it. but here the school is more than willing to pass the cost onto you. Which is kinda like mehh. but what can you really do? 👎
 
Does every school require this? If this is for just one specific school, then I'm withdrawing from it and just going to another school. That's like the cost of my groceries. No thanks lol.

So what schools are you guys doing the check for? I'm accepted at Louisville and was told I'd get an email for the background check but haven't received it... Just wondering when the email showed up.

I received the e-mail last night at 10:35 pm.
I guess I need to do it for UF and NYU because they're both on the list.

Wait to pick a school before you do this. Don't just do it right away. You probably only need a background check before you matriculate.

nope. my offer said the background check needs to occur before my offer expires, which in January.
 
Yes, which school needs it ASAP? The only thing the schools should need right now is the deposit. (I believe)

the school that needs that would indicate that in its offer letter. it was indicated in my letter and I am paying it. Sorry I dont want to mention the name of the school.
 
Wat does this background check even check for does it go all the way down to drinking tickets n stuff or is it felonies n misdemeanors

2. State/federal program exclusion (OIG)
3. Military Verification
4. Sex Offender Data Bases
5. International Searches (as applicable)
6. Social Security number verification
7. Address verification
 
okay so i got into case western [on the list] , but im wait listed at buffalo [on the list] and have an interview at nj next week [on the list]

do i have to wait until i hear from from nj and buf to hopefully get accepted or can i pay for it now it and it will already be paid for if buf or nj accepts me later on..

does that make sense?😕

I'm pretty sure you can just pay it now and buf/nj will take it if you can get into those schools. I doubt they would make you pay again.
 
This thing is damn quick. I filled it out Saturday night and got a result already. The actual charges were $100 (the $250 was the max that they could have charged, I guess depending on the state and tax % n what not.)

I also released the report. All my accepted schools and schools I am still interested in are pretty much on this list. Also my letter stated this needed to be done so my seat could be held.

I'm just happy it was a lot cheaper than I expected. 😀

I spoke with someone today who said that you fill it out and you then release it to all schools that have indicated "offer made" on AADSAS. If more schools let you in later, they can already access it so its best to do it now! 🙂
 
Mine charged $57.25, if anyone curious
 
Similarly, I was charged $50.00 although I had to authorize a possible charge of up to $150.00.

What does your result say? clean?
 
I have a quick question -- I just received the report back and for step two, it says "release the report" which I did too. But then below that, it says "Distribute your report to a third party. Do I need to fill this out too for individual school??
Or is it fine just to do it till step two (release the report) for the schools to receive the report?

I think Release is enough. it says that in 10 days its gonna release it automatically anyway. 3rd party seems like someone other than the school or you.

You can always call the school in a few days and confirm if they received anything. I plan to call on Friday since I mailed in the deposit and did the background check. I want to make sure i'm confirmed and my seat is held for me 🙂 before I drop my other acceptance and some of the other interviews that I don't plan on attending.

Yeah same here. I am planning on calling my school on Thursday or Friday to see what the next step is. 🙂
 
Did anyone find out whether we have to deliver the reports to each school?
 
Has anyone else been asked to fax in a copy of their SSN?

no i got an email from my school telling me they received it and it was satisfactory.

$32.50 here. Maybe it depends on the state and the hoops that have to be jumped through? Or maybe the people who are getting charged a lot more have done things they don't want to tell us about 😉 that require additional investigation. Maybe a combination of both.
 
mine was 120 i think. I have a clean record so not sure why so much? maybe it is dependent on the state you live in
 
Anyone not get theirs back yet? I submitted on the 3rd and it's been almost a week. I have a clean record so i have no idea what's going on....
