First aid notes that with acute transplant rejection, there is cell-mediated cytotoxicity via CD8+ T cells reacting to MHC class 1/2 it perceives as foreign on donor cells. Then it also says that a humoral response is seen with acute rejection via antibody production.
From what I could vaguely gather from other sources was that there is sometimes cell/tissue injury in the donated organ --> intracellular proteins exposed to dendritic cells --> MHC class 2 on recipient dendritic cells bind to these peptides (potentially due to epitope spreading?) and presents it to CD4+ T cells in the lymph node --> B-cell isotype switching/antibody production.
If anyone has any insight into this process that would be greatly appreciated!
