I am registered to take the MCAT this January 2013 (for the first time). I am still an undergraduate junior so am looking for admission to medical schools in fall 2014. I heard the a lot of schools don't accept the january mcat but does that mean that they only wouldn't accept it if I was trying to gain admission for fall 2013? Can anybody please clear this up for me. Also, if you have an official link that explains this better please share it.

Thanks!

Okay just want to make sure I'm getting this right:

To apply for 2014 fall admission, it is perfectly okay with all schools to take the january 2013 MCAT, but not okay with all schools to take the january 2014 MCAT?

Why do you think med schools wont accept a jan 2013 score in fall 2013 but will for fall 2014??

Scores are valid for 2 or 3 yrs, you can take the MCAT in january 2013 and use the score to apply up to 2016. See below.

How Long Are Scores Valid?
Medical schools usually accept scores dating back two or three years. If you have taken the exam previously, we recommend that you check the application policies of each school to which you intend to apply.

I read on some sources (mostly other threads on this webiste) that some schools don't accept January MCATs because it may be considered too late.

January MCAT is considered late for the previous cycle, not the current one. i.e. if you were applying in 2013,taking the mcat in jan of 2014 would be late.

Your application is not considered complete until you have submitted an MCAT score. Most med schools have November or December deadlines. If you take a January deadline, then you will not have your applications done on time. (And don't forget that you need the MCAT score to complete your primary applications. Your secondary applications are what will be due in November/December and you won't even receive those until you complete your primary applications.)

All AAMC schools I've spoken to stated the last MCAT accepted is Sept. of 2012 for Fall 2013.

If you applied last summer, they won't accept last month's January MCAT.

If you are applying this summer, they will accept the MCAT if you took it last month but won't if you take it next January.

Basically: You need to have taken the MCAT before the end of the summer in the year you are applying.

That was for last cycle. Most schools will take scores up to 3 years old.
