Anyone have any ideas why I haven't heard from most schools?
stats: 4.0 GPA, 22 TS, 23 AA, 24 RC and 18PAT (I know my pat isn't great but only applied to east coast schools)... Great extracurriculars, research experience etc. Applied 6th batch. only 1 interview, no rejections... what might be messing up my application?

Poor personal statement, bad or missing LOR's, mistakes on secondary payments, bad luck...who knows.

I would call each school and confirm that your application is complete to make sure something silly isn't holding you up.

To be honest your stats are pretty average now days for dental school admissions. Getting into dental school is really all about luck it seems like. You never know who is reviewing your application and what they see in your application versus another persons app. Maybe that other person has lower stats than you but has an activity on their app that the admissions guy identifies with (maybe that other person was a college baseball player and the admissions guy is a huge baseball fan for example). You just don't know.

If you don't get in there is always the option of retaking the DAT or getting a masters to boost your science grades or add more advanced science classes.

Good luck

Try raising your GPA with a master's program

Retake to get what? a 28 AA? 😕

Definitely call some schools to make SURE everything has been received. You still have a great shot for post-dec interviews!

It is not over yet!!!! Keep your hopes up. We still have Dec, Jan, and Feb!!!

What is it about a 4.0 that you people don't understand?

There is nothing average about your stats. If you are not receiving interviews there is something wrong. Did you take a lot of classes at a community college? Did you have someone check your personal statement? Are you out on parole?

Go to your AADSAS portal, click on 'Dental School Designations', and print out a PDF of your application that was sent to schools to see if something sticks out. Then, like others said, call individual schools and ask if they are missing anything.

Assuming everything else is fine, if you applied to only two schools, then it's statistically reasonable. If you applied to five schools comprised of the five most difficult schools to gain admittance to, then it's statistically reasonable. If you applied to eight schools, then it's statistically unreasonable that you did not receive more interviews.

thought the avg matriculating is 19 AA. SDN represents a very small population so it seems that 21-22 is the avg.

The only reason why I applied this summer was that I was above the AVG lol

What schools did you apply to? I applied to 10. If you applied to Stonybrook, they are just reviewing applications this past month, so they are behind. I didn't hear back from 4 of the schools I applied to. You should definitely call up your schools to make sure everything is completed. GL.

Ridiculous comments from people here, makes me laugh : Your stats are ABOVE average, No need to retake DAT, No need to waste on a master to increase a GPA of 4.O lol. You should call the school or go there and find out what is going on. Ask to speak to someone that can have access to your application and tell you if is missing something. Maybe you missing some pre-req or your statement says how much you want to be a dentist to be a millionaire. cheer up, now is your turn to do something about it, find out what is holding you from interview

Please disregard the first 2 sentences of the above post.

And the last one as well.

I literally almost spit out my coke when I read this. Why raise it when he has a 4.0? LMAO

Me too, but I was drinking orange juice... Maybe the guy was talking about those schools have a GPA scale can up to 4.3. Go raise the 4.0 to 4.3...:laugh::laugh:

you realize he was being sarcastic, right?

anyways. Don't believe anyone here who says your stats are average. Your stats are not just above average, I would say they're ivey league stats. I would call schools to make sure they received everything.. did you have people look over your personal statement?

Thanks for all your comments. as per raising my gpa - i actually have a 4.31 (4.33 science gpa and 4.29 non science) - I definitely cant raise my grades! i had a bunch of people look through my personal statement and edit it and by the end I really thought it was good, but maybe there was something they hated about it. The only thing I can think is that I only had about 50 hours of dental shadowing experience, but I did research in a dental lab so I kinda thought that would help make up for it. Also, I've done more shadowing hours since then so for the schools that let me update I sent them the info. For reference, i applied to maryland, BU, bufalo, NYU, stonybrook, columbia, umdnj, pen, tufts, and nova. I will try calling all the schools again but I did that and they all said it was complete and to just be patient! Hence the confusion - i read people with way worse stats then me who've gotten interview in all these school. , if I don't get in and reapply next year I'm just not even sure how I should be changing my application to do better the next time around....

Are you international?

What does your gpa translate into on a 4.0 scale?

are any of your pre-reqs from cc? did you take all your pre-reqs?

Goes to show it is not always a number game with schools.

Hmm, if you are not trolling, then there must be a significant flaw in your application...eg criminal record, foreign visa status, etc

no criminal record, US citizen, almost all prereq's done (completing physics now) and none taken at a cc...

Either you applied late, or you have a bad LOR and you don't even know it!

bad LOR is my guess at this point too.. don't know what to tell you.. I really do hope you score a couple of interviews soon.. people with stats like you deserve interviews lol

That is your problem.. You don't know what your GPA is ? I think is impossible to have a gpa of 4.31/4.33 unless you got all A+++++++ in college but I don't think that can happen anyways. THERE IS NO WAY OF RAISING A GPA THAT IS ALREADY 4.33, NO need if the scale goes only up to 4.0..(A) but I know some ppl can get A+ but not sure what gpa that is. You sound like an international student that needs to translate gpa!! Please clarify how you obtained a gpa of 4.33?

There are some schools that have a 5.0 scale; but I'm only aware of it for high school not sure about college.

Strange...but how does a 4.33 out of 5.0 translate to a 4.0?

IDK. I'm just saying I know of a high school that has a 5.0 scale but no colleges have I heard of does. So whoever started this thread needs to refer to a counselor to figure this 4.33 situation out.

MIT has a 5.0 scale. Many colleges have a 4.33 scale (4.33 = A+ 4.0 = A 3.66 = A- etc on down)

Whether colleges have the 4.33 scale or not, AADSAS has that, and most dental schools will probably use the AADSAS calibrated GPAs to try to keep something even across the boards (or as much as they can...)

+1.

When he said he has a 4.0, I'm assuming he's talking about the AADSAS GPA that gets sent to you when your application has been reviewed.

The problem here is that OP is trying to raise a GPA of 4.33.. How can you raise a GPA of 4.33 if that is the most you can get? sounds ridiculous, this thread is ridiculous and now I feel ridiculous too for wasting my time reading/posting lol
