I am a junior in college right now, and wanted to know what are the timings to apply.

for instance,
if i want to enter med school right after college, when do i apply for fall of 07? also, what would be consider applying early? and would taking the mcat in april be to late? how about august?

so what months are considered the earliest to apply? is it possible to apply to some schools for the spring semester?

sorry for having so many questions. im just very confused and know nothing about the timings....

thanks a lot

To enter in the fall of '07, you'll be applying next summer. To maximize your chances of acceptance, you should be planning on taking the MCAT in April of this coming year, although August is acceptable. Applying early is June 1st. That's the first day you can submit your primary application, the AMCAS.

thanks jc11011.

Also, one more question. if i apply for fall 07, do they even care about my 4th year grades? I mean do they look at them, or is there just a standard for me to keep them above a 3.0 avg.?

Some places have stipulations like you have to pass or you have to keep a GPA characteristic of the one you applied with.

I wouldn't totally blow off 4th year until you have an acceptance in hand. You might need a semester or two of 4.0 and deans list to include in a LOI to get off of a waitlist.

Don't worry about not knowing what's going on....as an engineering major in my school I was never exposed to all the premed information/discussions. I would have been clueless had it not been for my countless arts and sciences friends who would brief me in on everything premed. Since you are starting your third year you should try to aim for the mcat next april. April is preferable over august for various reasons so if you start to study early it can be done. You will be starting the whole applications process next summer. You can submit your primary amcas as early as June 1st and the secondaries will come to you after that during the summer. If you take april mcat you'll get your scores back in mid-June and ideally you should be getting interviews by late next summer or early fall. Very important - get to know profs during this year, start asking them for rec letters by the end of this semester or beginning of spring. I know many applicants who are delayed waiting for letters.

Yes, your grades 4th year count, don't slack it entirely. Many schools require that you keep sending new transcripts at the end of every semester to update your file. They won't usually help you very much, but they can hurt you....if they are in the process of looking over your app and all of a sudden your fall transcript shows a bunch of C's, they may reconsider interviewing you.
