Hi guys!
I used AP credit for General Biology I at my undergrad and did poorly in General Biology II, which I already retook with a better grade. So my goal now is to take General Biology I. However, I transferred to a new school (to save time on commute and have access to better resources) and their Biology department is confusing the HECK out of me.
So here is what their courses entail and if you look at the topics, you can tell that both courses aren't divided as they generally are at most other undergraduate institutions (I will italicize the topics I covered in my General Biology II re-take):
Principles of Biology I: The chemical basis of life; basic structure and function of pro- and eukaryotic cells; bioenergetics; Mendelian and molecular genetics; development and mechanisms of control of gene expression at all levels; population genetics and evolution.
Principles of Biology II: Taxonomy; homeostasis; internal transport and gas exchange in plants and animals; plant hormones; osmoregulation; mechanisms of action in the muscular, nervous and neuroendrocrine systems; the senses, behavior; ecology.
Their Biology department is telling me that I need to take Principles of Biology II to complete my one-year Biology sequence, but this doesn't make sense at all. Yes, I didn't cover physiology but I feel like for my AACOMAS application, I need to take Principles of Biology I. I contacted the pre-med advising department and they couldn't even help me out. I also tried contacting AACOM and they couldn't help me out either...
Could someone weigh in on this? I think I shouldn't have transferred until I finished the one-year biology sequence at my old school... 🙁
