hi everyone

ive been lurking around here for awhile now and i kinda just wanna quickly say thanks to everyone that shares the wealth of info in this forum.

with that said, im very confused to whats the best option for me, post-bacc or a masters.

ive heard post-bacc is supposed to be for people who werent science majors before or for people that seriously f***ed up school, or that masters is wrong if you hate research.

honestlyim really confused at this point, and i have no idea what to do

just brief stats here
-just graduated this spring
-majored in bio, minored in chem
cumGPA: 3.05
scienceGPA: 2.79

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME

I think you should calculate which option would bring up your GPA. How many courses do you have to take/Ace to bring your science GPA to at least a 3.3? If you can't do that with a post-bacc, then perhaps you should do a science master's..it won't raise your GPA that much, but it will show the AdComms that you can tackle the science workload and succeed (but you HAVE to kill your master's). It will also give you research experience, and every school appreciates a candidate that could potentially give them more publications.

If you want to do research in the dental field later on, you should do a master's program, if you do not care for research, do a PB program, lots of shadowing and volunteering, take a courseload of science classes and really do well on the DAT's. Also apply early, meaning getting everything in order from letters of recs, transcripts and personal statements in if you want the best chances of getting into a dental school.

Can you take classes at your school as a non-matriculating student? If you haven't taken anatomy & physiology or microbiology you should take those and try to get your science GPA up. Maybe you should try taking classes at community college - lots of people do it and get into dental school. You don't have to be enrolled in a university to bring your GPA up!

If I were you, I would focus on the other aspects of your app that you can improve upon. Work experience, personal statement, research.... If you don't live near the dental school you want to get into move there and start networking. If you can get your science GPA above 3.0, and you know the right people, you can get in. Just apply early!
