I registered for classes yesterday, and all day I have been wondering if I am doing the right thing. I don't have any of the science or math pre-reqs needed so I am starting all over again, at my state college.
The thing is I love business, and I am very entrepenuerial (sp?) in fact I have my own business now, but I feel that I need something more, and I actually like Dentsitry. I am wondering if I shoudl just go for an MBA instead. I have never been scientifically inclined and I am having second thoughts, if I should really do this. The fact that I commute for one hour doesn't exactly help either.

I'm extremely new to these boards but from everything I have read and the friends I have that are in med school now I can safely say that the path to becoming a doctor or a dentist is not an easy one. It is something that you are going to have to put every bit of yourself into in order to make it through. And without a strong underlying passion and desire to help get you through the really tough spots (i.e. med or dental school) then might well become just another drop out or failure statisitic.

What I have found to be the key in life is do what makes you happy. If you enjoy the business world more then anything else then by all means go for it. Since you will spend a fairly good part of your life at work (especially if your a doc or a dentist) then you better enjoy it. Because there is nothing sadder then someone who wakes up every morning dreading the workday ahead.

All of that said, if this is something you really want to do, if you really want to help people then by all means go for it. As I mentioned before, I am new here, but that's my two opinion.

I agree with the poster above....please don't do medicine just because you have inkling of thought about medicine. It takes a lot of dedication for medicine.

Sure it does, but I would say to not let anyone discourage you so easily. Who knows, being a doctor or dentist may be perfect for you. Try volunteering a few hours a week with a hospital or seeing if you can shaddow a dentist. Maybe start slow with the science classes and take one or two in the evenings to see how you like it. Maybe your interest will grow. Maybe you'll decide it is definately for you, or maybe not. It's is an awful lot of money and schoolin' to go through if you're not sure - but you don't want to regret not trying if it is really what would make you happy.
