hi,

I've got a million things running around in my head, and I'm getting very frustrated... :scared: I'm posting this in hope of clearing my head a bit and maybe, with your help, coming up with some kind of solution... 🙂
Long story short- I applied late, didnt get too many interviews- and I'm trying to figure out what to do- I'd really appreciate some feedback/advice/anything. What are my chances with the scramble (peds/med-peds/prelim or ty)? Wanted to do a one-year mph and then reapply next year (interested in international health/public health), but I'm not sure how feasible that will be because of financial issues... or possibly a post-doctoral research/job for a year and reapplying next year... I dont know what to do!! 😱 (not having a breakdown, but my head feels like its going to explode though 🙂) please help! 😕

Did you talk to your dean or advisor yet? That would be a start, even if they are not known for being helpful.

There will likely be spots in the scramble, but whether these are in places you want is another question which unfortunately can't be answered until the day arrives, as it is not necessarily the same institutions every year. If you are willing to go to any of the programs you did interview, then make sure you rank them all.

Ultimately you will have to decide what is best for you. If the most important thing is starting your residency, then hoping for a match or doing the scramble is best. Depending on your circumstances (whether you are an IMG, whether you have significant red flags in your application, etc) finding a scramble spot shouldn't be that hard, it just might not be in the right place. If the most important thing is getting a residency spot you want, then you might be advised to reapply. But no one here can really tell you what to do, you have to weigh things yourself (with help from trusted advisors or mentors).

Couldn't you always apply for the MPH and then drop out of it if you get a spot? I suppose that would be an option.
