I read that some schools, lets take Temple for an example, accept more than they plan on enrolling. I think it was 225 accepted for 125 seats for Temple.

I have gotten a letter of acceptance to Temple. I am GUARANTEED that seat until the deposit deadline, right?!??!?!

IM STRESSING OUT

Yes, schools offer more seats than they have available because they can reliably assume that a number of their acceptees will choose to attend another school. You're fine.

I wonder if there has been a case where way more people matriculated than the school had seats for...i.e. 20 more people than seats?

I remember reading something earlier this year about how NYU overbooked the c/o 2007. Apparently, they offered people $40K scholarships if they were willing to postpone matriculation for a year.

You got.

They go by stats to determine how many acceptances to give out. NYU and Temple are about the same. They have about a 60-70% melt...meaning 30-40% of accepted people actual choose to go to these schools.

All schools are different. itsgavinc, correct me if I'm wrong here, Arizona is on the low end and has about a 40-50% melt.

Now you can see why admissions has a huge task at hand, hence why many people get pulled from the waitlist at the last min.

osushi gurl,

You should be fine. If I remember correctly, Temple requires two deposits. The one you're about to send right now is probably the first one. They will definitely mail out another notice to get your second deposit just to confirm that you're still interested in going. I think a lot of ppl who do put both deposits in probably end up not going because they make it to their state school or first choice school afterward. This is true, as was said before, about other dental schools as well.

I think you're correct. I believe ASDOH is giving out 90 acceptances (TOTAL) this year for the 54 seats, which means about 60% of the acceptences will be filled. So that equals a 40% melt. Is that right (I'm new to the term "melt")?
