Are you planning on taking a course? If so they provide the adequate literature for you to be trained.

1. Malamed Book on Sedation is perfectly adequate.
2. Dubins EKG book is a good read (it will help with acls and if you have a 3 or 5 lead in your office)
3. A Pharm book as a reference is also good but not necessary

Requirements vary from state to state so make sure you find out what the requirements are prior to pursuing your permit.

Concious/Moderate sedation is far from rocket science.
