I started this topic because it is am embarrassment what dental schools put out these days.

How many of you learned that "measurements" and "statistical studies" demonstrate that a needle less than a 25 gauge should not be used in the oral cavity, yet 99% of you use 27 or 30 gauge needles because you saw "other dentists use them"?
How many of you follow a ficticious procedure known as "pre-medication"? even though the procedure was not based on a known "need" or "treatment"? Are you all really that ignorant?
How many of you diagnose a toothache by first looking at the radiograph?
Your schools have failed you. Practice science, NOT consensus, because your friends who tell you these things are idiots.

If you are right, I guess there is no one else to blame but your generation of dentist for teaching us in this manner...maybe your energy would be better spent working with educators then those that are on the recieving end of this training...

Hrm.............. I wonder how you feel about the facebow?

I think most dentists understand there's no scientific need for pre-medication and pre-medicate patients from the standpoint of defensive legal medicine. Yes, pre-medicating has never been shown to be effective of indicated, but consensus DOES matter in the law. If you fail to pre-medicate and are unfortunate enough to say, have a someone get an SBE, I can guarantee you're going to get raked over the coals in the courtroom.

You should post more often. Screw the ADA and AHA, right? Tell that to the jury.

I use 18 gauge needles. Patient's can't tell the difference. I looked it up on pubmed.

Bold and stinging words, but typed from a nameless keyboard by a nameless dentist. Care to identify yourself to stand by your argument? Or can we safely ignore you as merely another mud-slinging troll?

A good scientist would site the study that reported "a needle less than a 25 gauge should not be used in the oral cavity".
