There's this little thing between conservative and liberal where all the non-crazies are. It's called "moderate."
I didn't include moderate because I, like a lot of people, would pick moderate. I really wanted to see between the 2 ends of the spectrum where people fell MOST towards...
That's called a libertarian.
Which is why the OP's poll doesn't really work... At minimum, it needs 4 choices (if not using moderate). Politics work largely along two axis: personal issues and economic issues. This poll doesn't really offer the necessary options. It seems most here, though, would consider themselves toward libertarianism and/or centrism. Not really surprising, actually. I'd say I'm personally between centrist and libertarian.
I obstain in protest of the lack of a libertarian option. 😛
Moderate, while I have sentiments which are very libertarian i,e high personal freedoms and I cant help but feel that fiscally the government should be lenient on things. However the leniency towards topics such as globalization and multi-national trusts/monopoly's. I believe that if the government doesn't regulate big business and multi-national function we'll end up having the return to age of the East India Company.

Not always. I consider myself somewhat liberal on social issues and somewhat conservative on fiscal/economic issues, but I don't consider myself libertarian. Libertarians take free market ideas to a greater degree than do many conservatives. There are other differences as well.

hmm i wouldn't say that.. most doctors might be fiscally conservative, but socially they are probably more liberal then college students.
That's because they finally make some money and realize they don't want 40% going to taxes.

I will gladly pay 40% of my income to taxes if it means better infrastructure, better education, better health care, etc. You get what you pay for.
I voted liberal, but I'm with the conservative economically/liberal socially crowd.

I doubt they are, but even if you are right the vast majority vote conservative. Even if they are socially more liberal, which I don't believe, they realize fiscal issues >> social issues. Unlike college students, they rather pay low taxes than have the right to an abortion...etc.
Not to be a smartass, but if you really think this why don't you? Some kids at my school are very liberal and they are deciding to go to overseas med school for this very reason.
If your response is that your family is here...some of my friends are (South) Korean immigrants who left many of their friends to pursue a life in the US with more freedom. Not trying to be a dick, just curious.
I'm thinking that pretty much the entire world is going to disagree with you on that one. Being conservative in the U.S. is like being a fascist anywhere else. We're really, really far to the right where global politics are concerned. Saudi Arabia's probably on the same page, though. 😛
Libertarian, but I said conservative because I generally vote based on a candidate's fiscal policy.

I look at politics like this:
Look at those two c0cks over there fighting over a bunch of lies on paper. Why should I ever let their anxiety become my own.
After studying psychology, I watch c-span, read the news, think history --- and I see political debate on issues as a disease of the mind that a perversed culture inflicts upon all of us.
IT affects us in different ways and only leads to a decreased understanding of ourselves and of our relations to one another.
It makes a confused brain much more stupid in all other aspects of life.
Politics is the nonsense that a doctor should never have to worry about. Politics is bull****. It is as simple as taking a crap. Why? because Marxism explains it all. That is all you need to know about politics. Karl Marx is the patron saint of global politics b/c he wrote the 19 century version of "Why Politics Suck 101 for dummies". He was a jew in 19th century europe. Props to that Jewish bro.

Well talk to the non-christian or LGBT or minority doctors. They probably see social issues which the GOP support as openly against there existence. Most doctors i know are libertarian or independent, because they support democracy and not theocracy which the GOP push for daily.
Remember we are the industrial nation with the highest anti-science legislator of all other industrial nations. Personally i'd never support the GOP just because they are mostly over-religious people who would love to erode the constitution and make the US more religious.
Btw abortion as a right is about much more then abortion... Its about erosion of rights, erode abortion and the government will begin to be erode rights and even the Constitution one day.

Karl Marx he's a pretty brilliant man. I mean he's up there as one of the biggest social scientists to ever live. I mean his view of socio-economics and then his view on the fact that all problems boil down to inequality and conflict over power.
I would say that Karl Marx was brilliant in how he identified the biggest problem in our society. However his method of solving it was far fetched.
If he had gone to Austria and talked to the next brilliant dude Siggy Freud, he might have been able to realize that humans are waaay too horrible to actually create and maintain utopia.
Welfare, neh.. The result is that we need to put some preventive measures into the children of welfare users. I mean its proven that behaviors are influenced strongly by environment. As such we can probably safely assume that the ghetto isn't going to provide a environment for children to grow up to become full functioning members of society. We need some to seriously change the way we view the problem, from blame the corpse ( ppl are on welfare because they are lazy and could easily survive working at mcdonalds) to maybe society has created a situation of which is negative.
I really think that if we must be taxed.. that our society,infrastructure,education, and anti-globalization trust programs should be funded. So that our nation wont end up spiraling into destruction from ignorance and decay of social values.
I'm going to have to disagree on one point. Christian voters do not predominantly vote GOP. Certain segments of Christianity in the US do (evangelical Protestants mostly), but really that's only been in the last 20 years or so. Evangelicals also overwhelming voted for Jimmy Carter, a Democrat. Now throw in other groups like Catholic, Episcopalian, and other mainline to liberal denominations, and the party breakdown is much more even. Especially with Catholics, as they are a weird bunch to pin down politically because of their traditional support for both social justice issues like poverty associated with modern liberal ideology and stances against abortion associated with conservative ideology. Hence such voter populations are often split. You can look on the Pew Research Center website for more info.

It's kind of sad to me that people will base their entire political ideology primarily on maximizing their personal salary. I understand no one likes taxes but jesus don't let that be the reason to switch you from whatever party you were at before. If people were liberal once when they had no money, it seems really sad for them to switch once they have money.
All I'm saying is, if you're going to be conservative, at least be willing to be conservative even if you know you're going to become poor and you'd be the one on welfare. Likewise, if you're going to be liberal, at least be willing to be liberal even if you know you're going to have lots of money soon. So much materialism in this country.

What if utopia were a condition inflicted upon society rather than intentionally crafted by political process.
Political discourse, in my opinion, boils down to nothing. It's an empty field that rots the brain.

Hmm.. you see what your forgetting to see is that we are a population of 6 billion ppl. Society is a macro insitution, yet you want to eliminate the only possibile way of actually inflicting a thing on a macro level. So basically your looking at a utopia where your individually forcing people into utopia. By forcing utopia upon others your going to create a revolution as people WILL resist. In the end, you forget Marx key principle the conflict theory, people will naturally fight to maintain power. Utopia will destroy class structure and as such, people will fight.
Never said that all christians vote GOP. My best friend is christian and a die hard liberal. I however am saying that the GOP's face is that of a white christian male who believes the world is 6000 years old and believes the nation was founded on juedo-christian values. This was the reason why i decided the GOP was just not my type of group
