I'll try to keep this short because I'm not sure exactly what feedback I'm looking for. I think I want someone to tell me "yes, definitely do it, everything will work out."

Currently a business analyst making around $70k. I actually have an interest in real estate for long term income. I'm 34, married, 1 child and hope to have another next year.

Being an analyst is OK but not something I look forward to doing for 30 more years if I am blessed to live as long. I saw dentistry as a way to guarantee (as much as anything can be guaranteed) a great income and allow me to invest in real estate. I realize I could start saving and investing now, without changing careers, but my income potential will be much less.

If I got accepted, my husband would be supporting us and we would be scraping by. Aside from my freshman year of college, I have worked since I was 16 and not having a job is scary to me. This site has directed me to a variety of scholarship possibilities and I believe I could probably get one. I'd have to take about 2 years of pre-reqs. I've been a good student in the past and good at tests but I'm not sure what my odds of acceptance are- all this thought may end up being for naught, lol. I have yet to shadow or get into the trenches. I'm less afraid of school than of uprooting everything in life.

Can anyone speak to completing school with kids? Any career-changers? Anyone who moved away from family for dental school? I am attracted dentistry because of the art involved and the opportunity to get into a field where minorities are usually underrepresented. I've also started various side businesses and I see dentistry as a way to still be my own boss eventually.

Minorities aren't underrepresented anymore, the better word your looking for is like a super saying minority. A Mega minority.
