Does anyone know of a list of prelim programs that have consistent hours? I am fine with working nights or days, I just dont want to do a lot of alternating. Every month or so is fine, but not every other day. Some of my friends who are current interns are telling me horror stories of programs which make them work alternating days and nights, instead of a month of days followed by a month of nights etc.

You're going to have to go by word of mouth on this stuff this year. Everything remains up in the air hours-wise and likely will through this time next year...and maybe the year after that.

Alternating days/nights are the rule in some specialties (EM and Gas) but are a complete waste in most others.

Agree with the prior poster that by word of mouth you can generally find out the schedule, although thanks to recent duty hour changes a lot of programs are still in a state of flux and haven't yet decided what works best yet. I would also suggest that sometimes a schedule that seems better while in med school really isn't in practice. You might find a month of nights, where you are sleeping during the day very isolating, and makes things difficult in terms of education, social life, and sleep schedule (you often never get the same kind of sleep trying to sleep in the daytime). By contrast a few days followed by a few nights results in more transitions, but is maybe less disruptive in terms of day - night cycle, and let's you see people. After night float, I had a much better appreciation for the q3 call system.
