Interesting question:

I got waitlisted at a med school last year and am applying EDP this year. It was recommended to me by a doc that I contact the folks that interviewed me last year with an update letter and, basically, a letter of intent.

Any thoughts on this?

hm.. thats a thought i guess it couldn't hurt.. but i why specifically to the interviewer(s) from last year? Why not to address it to the entire adcom?

There is an essay question in the secondary that allows for a general address to the adcom to happen...and it is a small adcom

I think the intent of the letter would be to point out the specific way I have improved and to remind them of who I am (in a classy way, of course). ask more questions etc

What i didnt know is if if could be considered inappropriate somehow

I don't think that a relatively short, to the point, polite letter would be perceived as out of line. The people might even remember you. I think it's a good idea.

I actually had to apply twice to get a cardiology fellowship..and I did contact a couple of the program directors after I didn't match the first time, to get some feedback. I thought it would at least let them know I was still interested.

Don't give up...getting interview invites last year means you were in the range of folks that they accept into their school. Stay positive and try to improve your application as much as you can, and see what happens this year.
