Hello all,
I need some serious advice. I started a research internship at a Bosotn hospital few weeks ago, but as a student not earning credit I get to stay for only 3 months. The thing is that my schedule right now is fully loaded with science classes and I am very busy and on top of it I have to spend at least 15hrs a week, doing things as running gels, tagging mice, and genotype-ing, My sci gpa is around 3.2 as of now, junior, im applying as a senior, and I feel that it would be best if I concentrate on my academics now. What do you think? Also, since I have been there for about a month and a week, can I say on my future app that I stayed for 3 months, and how can med schools check that?????????

thank you

Doesn't sound like a good situation to stick with. First off most worthwhile labs will have you stay at least a year with them. Also the point of doing research as an undergrad isn't to be everyone else's slave but to actually get experience analyzing data and thinking through the scientific process. Finally, 3 months research isn't going to have much of any impact on your application.

First of all, if you only worked for a month or so, I would not lie and say that you worked there for 3 months. If they contact your mentor or program, and it's discovered that you mis-represented yourself, I would say that there's a good chance they won't admit you. Truthfulness is very important in both science and medicine, and so this is a big issue.

It would be more important to have a positive experience than to have lots of different experiences. You should manage your time in a way that you see fits your life and schedule best. Saying 'no' isn't always easy, but you might give yourself some room to breathe.
