for number 42 on page 293 of the second part of ochem, it says "a compound can be separated using extraction as long as it is not reactive in any of the mediums." and then they give an example where ester will react to hydrolysis...
but then on page 297, #70, it says acid-base extraction is not viable because the product has no acid-base properties.
so for instance, butane. can it be separated using extraction? the answer to number 42 seems to say yes, because it is not going to react to hydolysis
but the answer to #70 indicates no, it cannot, because butane has no acidic hydrogens
so which is it?
