hi everyone! i'm really appreciative to have gotten offers from both schools. i wanted to thank everyone for their advice in the last thread and see what people thought of these two schools.
Cooper
Pros
  • loved the students and the vibe here! really warm and inviting atmosphere, felt like the faculty really cared
  • great match day - 100% match rate in 2019
  • hospital is right next to the school, most clerkship rotations are there
  • emphasis on community service, which i really resonate with
  • foundations of medical practice throughout yr1-2, i feel like i'd just be really prepared to interact with patients w/their curriculum
Cons
  • tuition more expensive at 66k/year
  • farther from family + SO (california), though there is some chance of SO moving out to live with me
  • camden is not the safest, but students have said the immediate vicinity of the school is safe
  • research not as established/well-funded

UArizona Phoenix
Pros
  • tuition cheaper at 55k/year
  • has pcp scholarship for psychiatry, which is a field that i'm really interested in
  • closer to home (california) and SO, better opportunities to visit them and vice versa
  • great weather, and i like arizona as a city. i was pretty excited to come here!
  • students are pretty chill
  • great research opportunities
Cons
  • unranked compared to cooper? not sure how important that is
  • will have to rotate out to different sites in 3rd/4th year, would need a car
  • did not get the same vibe here as i did at cooper, but that wasn't to say the students were unkind, they were just chill + laidback
thank you guys in advance!
