So, I asked one of my former professors, if he would be willing to write me an LOR, and he said "yes". However, in his e-mail back to me he said to "write up a resume" and "a copy of my narrative". I know what he means by a resume, but what does he mean by "a copy of my narrative"? 😕 Does he mean like a personal statement? I'm sorry, if I'm showing my ignorance here, but I really want to make sure that I know exactly what he's talking about. Thank you all for the advice and comments! 🙂

This is funny and weird. I wouldn't know what to do either...so I would probably send the old codger my personal statement and wait to see if he asks me for something different.

I would also cross my fingers that his LOR does not mention the fact that I am a dumb@ss and don't even know what a "copy of my narrative" is.

This might be a dumb question but is the professor you're e-mailing an English professor? If so, that could explain what he means by "narrative".

Probably meant a narrative of what you've been doing recently, recent accomplishments, etc. In another words, the prof wants something to work from. This really isn't an uncommon request at all and will help to enhance the letter.

The more info you give him the more personal your letter will be. Therefore I would give him a copy of your PS and a list of accomplishments including any awards or honors that you may have recieved.

He definitely means personal statement, and for your resume make sure you list everything you are going to list on AMCAS.
