Hey! I have a question to all the Attendings that browse this forum.

If you had to estimate... what is the percentage of patients that wear soft contacts and develop cornea neovascularization.

If a patient switched to glasses, how long does it typically take for them to become ghost vessels?

Thanks!

I'll be a student starting next week BUT from my slight experience and my deductive capabilities I would think that since LASIK surgeons tell you not to wear contacts 2 weeks prior to having the surgery, I'd say that's how long it takes for them to develop into ghost vessels. Just my guess. And I also have corneal neo myself from CLs.

percentage? I'd say most develop some degree of neo

how long for ghosting? depends on the degree of neo

2 weeks for pre-lasik is pretty liberal IMO, but again most people have only a small degree of neo, whereas some have a higher degree (further encroachment, etc) and would require much longer for ghosting to occur. Lastly ghosting is often temporary, and will re-perfuse given the opportunity.
