I heard that Cornell, although non-rolling, does give out some decisions in December. Is that true? Has anyone ever gotten one?

From a 2003 cycle thread:
"OK, so I just called - this is what Cathy Cabrera said
- they have already sent enough acceptances (in January) to meet the March 15th deadline! If we hadn't heard by now we had to wait for the next batch. She said the next batch of acceptances would go out at the end of March. Interviews for mid march were still being scheduled.
I queried the mid-March 'enough places to fill the class' deal and she said they already had....??? hum."

Wow so basically they give out 100 acceptances to fill the class by January 31st?

a very small number of offers are made in december. the majority of decisions (contrary to what that post you referenced says) come out in March, and then people start to come off the wait list after may 15th.
if you don't hear anything in december it means nothing - you're just not in that select few they picked.

🙂 ha, my words come back to haunt me. I remember making that post and even the phone conversation - as it turned out I must have misunderstood or they misunderstood me as if you look at subsequent posts around that time (including ones from me) the majority of SDNers heard from cornell in March.
It is as edfig99 said the minority/MD-PhDs that tend to hear earlier - and as I believe he used to be on the cornell adcom he ought to know 😉
