Interesting question - is anyone admitted at Cornell being swayed by the possibility of another terrorist attack on NYC? I know my parents aren't too thrilled about the idea of their baby being in New York City, even if it is the Upper East Side...

i think that you otta read ur statement to urself. its rediculous.

NYC is no longer a strategic target anyways, if u think about their mentality u should worry if ur in DC, SF, LA etc etc etc

lets just leave the states.

I think it is a valid concern. NY is always mentioned as one of the top terrorist targets. If you stay there for 4 years then you have a higher chance of being near an attack than if you were in... perhaps Iowa.

why would they want to strike a bunch of punk med students anyways?

dude... living in fear is not the way to go

Yeah you *****. Why don't you just do your medical studies in an underground bunker somewhere in the midwest. Then your parents won't have to worry about their precious little baby.  😛

Why don't you give up all of your New York schools...that is safe.🙄

I want to go to NYC and I will enjoy every second of it...living there is a great experience and I will not let fear ruin it if I get the chance...you're so lucky and you don't know it.😱

boy i'm glad you folks have just big cajones. so big that you need to attack others for their concerns. 🙄

I was just having a little fun since the statement is well, funny.

Just to make up for the "attack" of my last post I will cheer the OP on to withdraw the acceptance.

Withdraw, withdraw, rah rah rah:clap: Yay!

All I heard from my mom after 9/11 was that she was so glad I didn't go to college in NYC, as I had originally planned. My response is always the same: I refuse to live my life in fear. I'm still considering New York for med school and life afterward and the threat of terror attacks has absolutely no bearing on that decision. I'm a city girl anyway, so I'm bound to end up somewhere that is less safe than rural America.

oh new yawk babah fo' shore..

the apples is the shizzNIZ with the bizniz firilla

punk rok j-walk frizzy to the hizzy

That is the funniest line of blurbs I have read, what does it mean? Seriously...

Anyways, no hate I was just trying to show how much I love New York and if you really are doubting living there, then it may not be the place for you.

i think mt sanai and then einstein would be most susceptible.

I think some of the replies are interesting. If you look at the original post you'll see that I made no statement indicating my position on the question I posed. For all of you who refuse to let the terrorists win, press on.

Dude, good post, but are you on the Mount Sinai waitlist or something...😉 Seriously, I doubt a major attack will go undetected like 9/11. I think something of that magnitude can only happen once and now the "innocence" or naiveness (if that's a word) is gone. There are less original ways for terrorists to attack and especially the same city, TWICE! No hate, but I would not make my med school decision on fear alone.

But that's just my opinion...and as for Nostradamus...well I just cannot formulate a serious answer to that...      Hope that says it all.

dude... hipplayer, you're a *****

what is u?
with yo' "rue the day" bo'sheet

Moops again...
I almost pi$$ed laughing.

You will rue the day man, you will rue the day. :horns:

Damn, let's not even begin to count the thousands of things that you're more likely to die of in the next 4 years. Hmm...car accident, choking, sudden cardiac death, complications from influenza, suicide, homicide.....

Do not play de ping pong!

Not that I would ever let it influence my decision, but this is a valid question. In fact, I was asked at my Cornell interview if I was hesitant to go there because of such fear.
It is a valid target if you think about it. Across the street one way is Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the other way is Rockefeller Foundation (which has more Nobel Laureate than anywhere else in the world). Together, these three institutions make up the second most important science research center in the country after the NIH.

But I must say that living in fear is not the answer.

another possible cause of casuality: lack of social life in medical school.

but seriously, i think you watch too much cnn and read too much msnbc.com.

ATTENTION, ATTENTION! THE COUNTRY IS ON ORANGE ALERT!

the **** serves no other purpose than to instill fear into the citizens of our country. i think you are more likely to get mugged and raped by bin laden himself. good luck.

p.s. don't walk home by yourself late at night, i hear al-qaeda is a lurkin'

I live in NY and won't want to live anywhere else. You can't live in fear, because if you live in fear then you're really not living. Don't worry about terrorist attacks you can't stress over what you don't know, go on and attend Cornell. Who knows when your done you may never want to leave NY, it is a wonderful place to be, full of electricity. It was 70 degrees in the city today and people were all out and about, it just goes to show you things happen and we will always remember, but in the end life goes on.

That made me laugh so hard that I scared my dog...

To the OP: Don't go. I'm sure your Cornell withdrawal will make some waitlister very happy 😀

Seriously, I love New York. It's my favorite place on Earth. The thought of living elsewhere didn't even cross my mind on 9/11, despite living less than a mile from the WTC and having my s.o. in tower 1 when it was hit. Like Blazed said, this city is full of electricity. The spring is amazing, so full of life, with days so beautiful that I get giddy in love with this city. Or nights like last night, when thousands of people jam into a small building to celebrate life with amazing music and amazing dancing. Life is good...
