Cornell pre-meds: Be forewarned

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Did you know that Wellesley College pre-meds average a 90%+ acceptance rate to med school. Some years, it's 100%.

INSANE!

+1 for small liberal arts colleges.

Man, i'm so glad that my pre-med 'committee were on top of things..well def. better compared to these big name schools. I knew my pre-med advisor and pretty much all the committee members on a first name basis, and cld tell them I needed the letter ASAP and it was done.

I'm also a student at Cornell, and I love the HCEC. They made the process easy, they kept me motivated to stay on schedule, and Judy and Janet offered some great advice along the way.

I don't think the August submission could affect your application in such a negative way. My application was submitted the same day as yours and I received interviews at many great schools, and have been offered acceptances.

August is still very early in the application cycle, your application was not impacted by the August submission. Medical schools know that it is Cornell's policy to release letters in August, and I don't think Cornell students are placed at any disadvantage...in fact, I noticed an unusually large number of Cornellians at the interviews I attended.

I think you should take a close look at other areas of your application, and figure out where things went wrong. I don't think the submission date has anything to do with your situation.

To be fair to the OP, it sounds like Cornell agrees that the August release date did cause problems at one school in particular.

I'm sorry to dig up an old thread, but is the HCEC situation still like this? When exactly are they gonna send out my letter? I'm applying this year, planning to take my MCAT in June. If HCEC don't get my LOR out by August, do I even have to bother taking my MCAT in June? Can I wait until July?
