i have a question. my application for cornell was complete in late sept. and i still haven't heard from them. most of my friends in my school have been invited for an interview or has been rejected (pre-interview). i haven't receieved anything. does cornell have a "hold for interview" system? i wrote them a letter last week explaining how i was interested but i'm a little scared since a lot of people from my school interviewed there already. hmmm..... interesting.... 😕

I got the rejection letter this past week -- they seem to be sending them out in smaller batches. I don't think that they are done interviewing yet, so don't give up hope!

I'm in the same boat as you...completed app since Sept and no word from them. They have a track record here of making strange decisions on who to interview and admit. A person in my lab graduated with over a 4.0, had numerous publications, got accepted into Harvard, Hopkins, Yale, but no interview offer at Cornell.

yeah, i've been complete for a while too, but haven't heard anything. By the way Aoshi, how can someone have a GPA that's over a 4.0?

At some schools, for example Columbia, an A+ counts as a 4.3 rather than a 4. If you get enough of 'em I guess you end up with a GPA over 4.0!! 😀

yeah but they dont translate onto the application, which is converted onto a 4.0 scale. i know because my 3 A+'s were bumped down.

I've gotten two A pluses but my school does not increase your gpa to above 4.0 for them, and the amcas application doesn't show them. What good are they? To make you feel good? I guess law schools and others may see those pretty ++++++++s.
Oh well. <img src="http://www.theunholytrinity.org/cracks_smileys/contrib/legionxs/wavey.gif" alt="" />

Well those A+s are not totally lost from consideration... You even put them on the AMCAS application, just that right next to the A+ it'll say "AMCAS Grade" where it'll be cut to A. I believe that when med schools view your official transcripts they'll take into consideration that A+ in specific interesting or tough classes is a measure of your academic ability, over and beyond the simple number GPA.

yeah but they don't look at the official transcripts until you're already accepted. oh pooh (not that my dumb butt had any A+'s).

don't you miss high school where you had a 4.5? 🙂

geez it seems so long ago work-wise, but i know time-wise it was only a few years ago

I just want to know what schools you guys are going to that give A+'s! I'm jealous!! 😛

also complete in Sept, and just got rejection 2 weeks ago. Schools are very variable with their response times. Like I was complete at most schools around the same time, but my 4 rejections (all pre-interview) were very spread out
10-22, 11-7, 12-4, 1-24. One in each month. Guess I'm due for my Feb rejection soon

As for the A+ grade, I just met with the graduate council Wednesday to propose my resolution for changing the plus/minus system. They rejected it 0-5, but offered some good points that make their interests different than students and undergrads. It passed the student senate (18-5-5) and the undergraduate council (11-0-3) before being shot down. Guess it's back to the drawing board.

Does anyone know if Cornell is still sending out interview invites?
