In performing a CABG, CT surgeons use the great saphenous vein or sometimes the radial artery. How is perfusion or venous return maintained the regions from which the vessels were removed to perform the CABG?

collaterals and redundancy.

1. Sephenous veins are not the main venous return for the lower extremities. In unusual cases, the SFV (main venous return) can be harvested for other use and it will still be okay because collateral can develop over time. Edema will occur and elevation and stockings will be require.

2. The radial arteries are not the main blood supply to the hands (in most people). The Ulna are the main blood supply.
