how much would you say it costs to apply to schools? travel/apps/review classes for DAT/etc?

hehe mommy wants a ballpark number. assume i apply to 15 - 20 schools.

15-20 schools will be expensive

$250 to send DAT score for 10-15 schools (1st 5 are "free")
$1169 to send your application to (15) schools from AADSAS
$800 in school processing/secondary fees ~ $60 per school
$2000-$3000 for interviews out of state + hotel, car rental etc etc

TBH though, I wouldn't apply to more than 15 schools. 20 schools is just too expensive, and there are plenty of schools that are not OOS friendly or have a preference for minorities, etc. Or it'll be one of those schools you don't really want to go to anyways.

I applied to 18 schools last cycle and spent about:
AADSAS Fees: $1373
Secondary Fees: $965
Sending DAT Scores: First 5 free, so 13 x ($25/school) = $325
DAT: ~$250
DAT Books: $65(kaplan blue book) + $50 (topscore) = $115
I also made sure to use registered mail for all my secondaries so that was an additional $216
Travel expenses vary depending on if you drive, fly, stay the night, etc.

Total costs: $3244 + travel

For me 14 schools was $1100 for AADSAS
Plus an average of $60 per secondary fee is anothe $840
The DAT was i think $190 plus $25 per score report after 5 so 190+9*25=$415
So you're looking at $2300 so far.
Now factor in between $250 and $500 per interview depending on location so that would be between $0 and $7000
So tell her somewhere between $2300 and $9300 and you should be all set.

thanks so much everyone! yeah, i told her it'd be about 4 grand, so to be safe i'll bump it up to 5. i will also definitely narrow down my list, but i want to be on the safe end and assume i freak out and do way more, as i tend to do 😛

You really need to sit down and make a list of schools that you would actually go if accepted. You should apply to 10 schools max. List 6 schools that you are average for, 2 that you are above average for (if applicable), and 2 dream schools. If you can't get into any of these 10, then chances are you won't get into the other 10 either.
