I'm currently finishing up an MSEd in Counseling and have been looking into doctoral programs in Counseling Psychology. One of the schools I'm looking at is the University of Toronto, and I noticed they offered both an EdD and a PhD in their Counseling Psych program. I am hoping to either be working as a college counselor or a professor - is the EdD the better route to take for this or does it not really matter? One big draw for the EdD is that I would not have to take additional psych courses to qualify as an applicant, whereas I would for the PhD (my BA is in Philosophy). Any advice?

My advice would be to apply to whichever program is accredited by either the CPA (or APA although I know all programs in Canada are leaving APA)...if both happen to be accredited by CPA, it sounds like the Ed.D. would suit you more.
