Countdown to Match 2012

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

Didn't mean to confuse people - I chose to count down to 1pm EST because that's the actual event time. If you prefer to count down to the day (i.e. midnight), you can do that here: http://www.timeanddate.com/counters...day=16&year=2012&hour=00&min=00&sec=00&p0=179. Remember that you still need to add 1 to the day (so it says 44 days 3 hours etc, but today counts as 45 days until match). Seems there's no good way to make it completely dummy proof. 😛

Since this thread is about counting down, I figured it'd be the appropriate place for my question. Is it too late to be emailing programs with questions? I've been looking heavily into the places where I interviewed and just realized there's some info I need to make my ROL. However, I don't want to make a bad impression by sending questions too late and having programs think they're a last thought or something like that. Thanks.

I think everyone is overthinking their every move way too much. I'm not pointing fingers (hell, I do it too), but it's easier to notice when it's someone else do it. If you have good questions and you feel the answers are important to you, go ahead and ask. ("What is your call schedule?" does not qualify as a good question, IMO).

I think pixella is right.... If you think the information you gain will actually make a significant difference in your rank list and it's not available on the website or SDN, then ask away!

I have some concerns about one program that I absolutely love. It's not really something that can be answered through email correspondence, but if it was, I would do it in a hearbeat....

I know, guilty. I can't help it, though. Everyone's been talking about sending their "You're my #1" emails and I am still undecided so I got nervous. Thanks for the input, though. I'll mainly be asking what the programs' numbers are for surgeries/deliveries, what the breakdown of rotations is by year, and their board pass rates. I asked these during my interviews but somehow forgot to write it down for certain programs.

Does anyone else just open their rank list and just kind of stare at it, maybe for embarrassingly long amounts of time? 😳

For people who will have to make complicated clinical decisions on a regular basis some day, we are beyond irrational this time of year (myself included) :help: :annoyed:

I also like the rampant use of emoticons :wow: :wow:

:boom: :boom: :boom:

Ok I'm done

Haha...I also started worrying today that there may be a glitch in the NRMP website and that I need to search for and double check every program code.

Where do you search for program codes to check they're correct? I tried looking the other day and failed to find anything. Probably just looked in the wrong places.

After you log in, in the upper left hand corner click "directory" and you can do your search there.

I've done that a few times. Just to make sure my order is right and to make sure every program says radiology and I didnt make a mistake somehow

I'm avoiding this by virtue of the fact that I haven't even logged into the site yet, AT ALL. Of course, I haven't finalized my mental list yet, but once I do I will probably be doomed to this same fate.

Nice, but aren't we on 44? (Counter says 43 days 10 hours until Match Day (midnight). If you think about it, on Wednesday March 14 it will say 1 day, 10 hours but it will really be "2 days" until match).

I wasn't really sure what we had decided. I went with 43 because it's a smaller number and by Thursday I'll be flipping my lid anyway. Lolzies.

Works for me!

Very apt for today Sean! Can't wait to enjoy a real game instead of fixating on this one 🙄

OMG I am so happy I found this thread. I finished my last interview yesterday and now am suffering as I await the results. Glad to see there are other people like me out there! Does anyone think of the worst scenario often? I just imagine how completely destroyed I will feel if I don't match after working my ass off completely devoting myself to medicine for 4 years. I'm going for a competitive specialty.

So what is everyone's specialty? I am applying general surgery.

jcu: I like the Patriots to win this one.

I'm doing emergency. Can't wait to find out we're all of my friends and I are going. I'm not that competitive numbers wise, so didn't get many interviews, and they interviewed at much better cities, so likely we'll be across the country from each other. But at least that means I'll have a reason to travel with free lodging. (*waits for someone to say there's no time for travel in residency*)

Peds up in hurr.

Sean: see my location for counter response 😛

Rads.

Interviewed all over the country so it's going to be interesting to see where I land. And it's possible for my prelim to be across the country from my rads.

Derm. Got more interviews than I expected (hopefully enough to match), and would love to match at any of my top 5 or 6 (but will be happy with any match, I'm sure).

What's up guywhodoesstuff? I remember hanging out in the Step 1 forums with you.

Hey AggieSean, long time no see. I remember the good ol' days in the Step I forum too. Glad those days are behind us, for sure. Now I'm just mulling over ROLs like everyone else, waiting with anticipation for March 16th.

Rads! I realized most of the people that I talked to on sdn when I was a premed aren't on here much if it all anymore.

That seems like so long ago.

Sorry for the gratuitous use of Aggie football players. Sort of. 😉

Anyone else feel like no matter what they do to their list they're not happy with it? I don't know how to let it go, I keep staring at it like some solution is going to pop out at me and say "THIS IS HOW YOU SHOULD RANK THE PROGRAMS!" I wish the ROL deadline was here just so I could be done with it and not have a choice anymore...🙁

yes!!

Um, guys, I hate to break it to you, but it's actually 33 days until match. Why do I have to be the countdown nazi? Because I finished my ROL and now I need something else to be anal retentive about.

It's like your fantasy football team (if you play). You just keep looking at it wanting to make more changes until finally you do at the last minute. More often than not those changes hurt you, but still what's the fun in not doing anything??
