Hey everyone!!!!

My boyfriend and I will both be applying for (hopeful) acceptance for 2010 this August..

Any couples out there apply together and get in together?

We'll be applying to ~10 schools just to be safe..and hopefully get into the same one 🙂 We've been together 5 years 😍 We both have similar stats.. =) competitive I'd say (or hope..haha)

Anyone else?

Not exactly the same, but I will be applying for Pharm schools next year when my wife is applying to law schools. Roll the dice and hope!

Have you two discussed what the plan is if you get into a school that's pretty far away from his and there's no other option? I apologize in advance if that's too personal.

For my wife and I, we've decided that, no matter the situation, we're going to take the best offers we get, and if we need to maintain a long distance relationship for the duration of our respective schools, so be it. In this day and age of technology, it'll be fine!

Ah so cute! I hope you two get into the same school!!

10 schools sounds like a safe bet, hope you two have similar stats.

Make sure you cluster your schools by geography as well, at least in the event that you get into different schools, you'll still be in the same city/county.

Good luck to both of you!

In case you guys don't get in the same school, good luck with the long distance relationship thing because it does suck! (speaking from personal experience🙁)

But if you try your best, it will work 🙂

That is definitely pretty similar. How competitive are law schools? More or less than pharm schools? And are you and your wife pretty competitive applicants?

Yes, we've pretty much figured out exactly what we're going to do if we don't get in the same school. . . and definitely don't apologize -- I am the nosey one asking everyone else =P He is more competitive than I am.. so I think wherever I get in will be the place that we end up going (obviously as long as he gets in as well). [[3.7 gpa, 200 hours volunteering, pharmacy experience as tech; he'll also have his bachelors of bio/philosophy]]

We'll be applying to Wayne and Ferris in Michigan..and also will be applying to Belmont/Lipscomb.. and it doesn't matter if we get into the same one or not since they are both in Nashville.

We're planning on getting into the same one (we're hoping 10 applications later we get at least one of the same acceptances).. if not one of us will wait and reapply next year to make ourselves more competitve. I can finish my BS if I don't get in. .

So basically our 'plan' is to apply to 10 schools.. hold out for Wayne State.. but put down a deposit at any other one we are lucky enough to both get into..but ultimately go to Wayne if that opportunity extends itself 🙂 As I eluded to, I don't see myself getting in somewhere where he doesn't.. so hopefully that isn't an unforeseen issue 😛

I know what you mean though.. technology really would make the distance thing a whole lot easier. I'm a firm believer that with a really strong foundation, relationships should be able to withstand a few years apart. It's a great test to the relationship, that's for sure. Good luck to you two in the admission process! You're applying for 2010 enrollment? 😳

Ohh.. and sorry this is so long! 😴 haha

I appreciate it!!! Any advice for long distance relationships???

Yesss! That is good advice! We're planning the geography out as well, great suggestion!

We're also focusing on private schools out of state..as well as public ones in state. Hopefully it'll work out 👍 Our stats are very similar.. but he is slightly more competitive.

Not really the same but I'm going to be starting rotations when my girlfriend starts grad school.

Stressful none-the-less..

right? :scared:

How do the rotations work exactly? i was in nursing school and we had clinicals 2x a week for ~6 hours/day.

Good luck w/ the rotations/grad school thing 🙂

Is this plan something you are both into or is it more your plan, or dream? Sorry, I just had to play devil's advocate being a guy and all. I'll let you smack him when he laughs at this.

That aside I wish you both luck. One of the secrets to long distance relationships is to communicate a few times a day, not necessarily constantly or for long periods of time. You or him will want it to be over if you talk for hours at a time everyday, especially if with the coursework load. Also do whatever is most convenient for both of you: phone, text, im, webcam... etc. Hopefully this will be of no help to you since it will not be necessary, but good luck!

Haha.. i enjoy devil's advocates 😛 I'm sure he'll laugh at it too (and maybe agree w/ you too! haha) 😛

Thanks! I agree that hopefully it won't be necessary.. but I like to be prepared in all cases for any circumstances that happen!

On a more serious note.. over our 5 years (keep in mind we both just turned 24), we've actually been through a lot in our relationship that has helped us to become stronger. In August, he got diagnosed with a pilocytic astrocytoma (a brain tumor which took up 40% of his cerebellum, which evidently had been growing for 10 years).. and had to get surgery 3 days after the initial dx. After surgery, he woke up and had cranial nerves 6 + 7 damage.. had (still has) left sided facial paralysis (along w/ the paralysis he can't obviously blink his left eyelid.. and had to have a gold weight put in.. as well as having double vision due to the gaze palsy), he could barely add decimals.. couldn't walk at all..the list goes on. I lived in the hospital for the 3.5 weeks he was there (LITERALLY..they gave me a pull out bed..haha) and left the hospital literally no more than 7 hours in 3 weeks..just to go home and shower.

In March, he started driving, and is taking classes again, going to the gym again, finally stopped OT/speech therapy, and is back on track.. but it was a longgg process. We're still going to see the paralysis specialists, eye specialists, and trying to work on all those problems which he is still having.. but cognitively he is back to the brilliant person he was pre-surgery, and things have gotten MUCH better.

...point being I guess that we've been through some of the toughest situations I could see happening.. and came out SO much stronger.. once you see someone in that kind of life threatening state..not being sure if they will make it.. and you stick together regardless.. the amount of confidence you have in your relationship increases exponentially. so I'm pretty sure we should be able to get through this 😀

Thanks for the laugh though.. he'll enjoy it too I bet.. and the advice 🙂 Are you in pharm school?

Not yet. I will hopefully be starting in the fall though. I am trying to decide where to go, pending admission. Your boyfriend sure will pass the "tell me about a time in your life where you encountered a difficult situation and managed to pull through it" question. For that matter you too. Good luck to him and his recovery and to you as you help him through it all.

Good luck to you too =) What are you deciding between? I can't believe how stressful all this waiting is! (and I haven't even applied yet.. i can't imagine how it is for you guys!)

And yes.. he'll definitely be good to go on that question.. no rehearsal necessary =P Thanks again! 🙄

How cute, I love couple stories!

It's not pharmacy -- but 2 of my friends (a couple) went to undergrad at a small private university. They applied to about 20 law schools and were accepted at the same one (I guess it's not too common for universities to accept more than one person from the same small school). You guys seem to have strong stats, so I wouldn't worry. I'm sure you will get in somewhere together.
My boyfriend and I have been together for just about 7 years, and he's finishing up his second year in law school. I'm hoping to get into my local school so that we won't have to be apart for that year when he is finishing law school and I am just starting pharmacy school. I realllly don't want to get into that whole long distance thing. So I can see how you'd be nervous.

GOOD LUCKKK!!

We have a married couple in the P1 class right now - there is also a set of twins. This past application cycle (that will be starting this Fall) had another married couple. The were not accepted at the same time - but they were both eventually accepted.

It can certainly happen - but I would prepare yourself for a long and difficult road - relationships are very difficult to maintain in pharmacy school (and professional program for that matter).

Midwestern CCP and UIC, pending admission.

aww thats so sweet.. i wish both of you the best of luck...
my boyfriend goes to ucsf and is currently a p1
and i ended taking a year off after college, but im currently deciding between western u, midwestern glendale and michigan ann arbor.

but even if you guys get seperated, you can work it out. 😛

Yeah, I don't doubt we could make it through..if necessary... but we're hopefully going to be able to avoid all that =P ..only time will tell I guess.

I've been stressing out a lot and researching even more (obsessing w/ reading this forum too).. and wanted to see if anyone was in the same/similar boat.

Hopefully we're all lucky enough to get accepted 😱

I fell in love with my current boyfriend three years ago and moved from New York to go to Wayne State to be near him in Chicago. My parents wouldn't approve me moving to Chicago because my intentions were none too obvious. I was accepted to Midwestern in Chicago yesterday after getting accepted into Wayne earlier this month. Here I am, being in a long distance relationship, and I FINALLY get the chance to be in the same state.

Unfortunately, I have strict Asian parents and it just so happens my dad would never want me to go there (he did his residency at Wayne), so it looks more than likely i'll be apart from him for another 4 years. I do have to luxury of seeing him once a month by taking the bus from Wayne to Chicago, but it would be nice to freely take the subway whenever I missed him. Ultimately, it comes to trust and good communication skills. There are times of jealousy (especially when he goes out with friends and you know there are going to be girls), when he has a group project and there are cute Indian girls (we're a biracial couple), or when he goes to a bar and gets really drunk and needy. Ultimately I just tell myself, if he was going to F you over, he would have not went through three years for nothing. 😳

Goodluck with you two! If you get interviews at Wayne, you'll have a more than 50% chance of acceptance. :luck:

Aww...sorry to hear about the strictness :-\ That's sad.. because it would be so much more convenient to be a subway ride away! Chicago isn't too far from D-town though luckily.. I've driven there and back in one day a few times =) But definitely less convenient.

Jealousy definitely gets better over the years. I know that w/ me and chris, we were very jealous the first 2 years or so, but that has mostly subsided since we've been together for so long 🙂 We're practically married now, and our trust is great. But it took a while.. so I know what you're saying! ESPECIALLY since you guys aren't in the same state🙁

More than 50% chance if we get an interview? Is that generally the chances there?? if so..YAY! haha 😎

~170 get interviewed. They decreased the number because they noticed in the past that a lot of people out of state either pull out of their interview invites or decline acceptances. They need 100 students to matriculate into the Fall. 10 students come from a guaranteed program for high schoolers. That would leave a little over 90 people getting accepted (they accept a little over the quota since some students want to go to Ferris, U of M, or other out of state schools).

P.S. Not to knock on my own university, but some people may not want to go to school in Detroit. One of the girls in my interview group was really uncomfortable about the area.

Awesome, that is comforting [as long as we get interviews!]

And as for Detroit.. I know what you mean. I went there for a semester, and to be honest, I wasn't all too comfortable being there walking around by myself at night. I had a class that ended at 930 pm and I HATED walking to my car a few blocks away. I had a few problems there.. and I saw someone steal a persons something (i couldn't see what..wallet, ipod?) and chasing that dude down the street. This was in a parking lot right off the main part of campus. I'm from a suburb-y area north of there (~20 minutes) and i definitely don't feel as safe there..

🙄

Have you started yet and been down there for a semester?

Oh my God! What street is that so I know now to avoid it. lol. I start Wayne around mid August, technically I can still drop all my courses at Wayne right now, since they only require the prereqs. I've been here for three years now, and it's really not that bad (I used to walk to the amtrak station on Cass by myself at night coming back from Chicago). This year, because of the current economy, I think it has gotten worse, especially last semester. The police station is within walking distance from campus, so that's a little comforting. I just wish that there were more places to eat out.... 🙂

Good luck in your application next year, if you have any questions about the process at Wayne (as I been through it twice), feel free to ask. 🙂

Haha, I can't remember what the street was.. but I know it was a little ways off of campus. I don't think it's that bad either. . . but there are some experiences that me or my friends have gone through that I am not overly excited about =P When that happened, it was actually 2 years ago I think.. soo ??

I definitely will! Thanx! Good luck down there 🙂 It's my top choice.. so maybe I'll see you around 😳

My girlfriend of almost 5 years and I are both attending the same pharmacy school this upcoming fall. Good luck to you two love birds!!

And you two can have sex after midterms to blow off steam!! :hardy::highfive::soexcited::claps::banana: :biglove: 😴

University of Houston. My stats are pretty average. 3.5 GPA, 85% PCAT, CPhT, hospital and pre-pharmacy organization volunteering. Yup.🙂

Hi - you might want to consider Mercer as one of your options - there is a married couple in my class, and also in this year's P1 class, so the precedent is definitely set here!

You know... I am always seeing things about Mercer on here. Any insights about the school?

I wonder if it is more common than I think for couples to get in the same places? =)

Are you two married? Are you sure you want to be together through the whole thing? Perhaps some different experiences from both of you would be better...get some table convo going 😛.

Who knows, you might just find someone else in pharm school

but thanks for the suggestions 🙂 😉
