On the OAT reading comprehension section, can you use a highlighter, or just a pen or pencil? Also, are the paragraphs numbered?

Hello:

I believe a highlighter is okay but definitely just practice with a pen/pencil in case the proctor will not let you use one.

I looked in the OAT registration packet today that had a sample RC section and the paragraphs were NOT numbered. They are spaced apart, so you can number them yourself if that helps.

Good luck,

Rosanna

Highlighters aren't allowed, neither are pens, rulers, etc. You can only use a No. 2 pencil

On the admittance card, it says that a highlighter is allowed. Check your admittance card to see if it says the same thing. I'd just bring the highlighter just in case.

What's the best way to do the R/C part? I"m having a hard time remembering the questions and where to look for it.. shall I look at the Q first? or? Coz at this rate, I can only finsih a bit more than 2 passages! =(

The best way for me (using Kaplan and TopScore) has been to scan the passage and highlight key words (or jot them down for TopScore), like the main topic of the paragraph. When I go to the questions, I have a better idea where to look. Some people think it's better to just go to the first question and scan for the answer, but I found that didn't work well for me. You don't have enough time to read any passages carefully, unless you're a VERY fast reader.

Good Luck on Saturday! :luck:

Thank you very much! =)
Good luck to those writing tomorrow!

Let me make a suggestion.

On the reading comphrension section, just try to answer the questions first WITHOUT READING THE PARAGRAPHS.

when I took mine, one of the paragraphs contained all kinds of detailed anatomy of the thorax. SInce I had just taken a course in anatomy, I was able to answer most of the questions without having to read the article.

Also, if you make an attempt to answer the questions first, you can then quickly skim the articles and pick out the tidbits that the questions are asking about.

Good luck.

Better you all than me! 😀
