I wondering if someone who has gone thru couples match can answer my question. Is couples match something that you indicate in the ERAS/NRMP application? or is it something that you indicate when you submit rank list in Feb? Thanks much.

you fill it out when you register through the NRMP. if you decide later (before ROL is due) you can uncouples match or couples match at anytime. MOST IMPORTANT******* YOU BOTH MUST COUPLES MATCH. this seems obvious, but when you fill out your status, you put in your partner's name. so in doing this it SEEMS like you have registered both of you, but you haven't. YOU BOTH MUST COUPLES MATCH AND PUT EACH OTHERS NAME DOWN. two of my classmates misunderstood this and one ended up in kansas and the other in wisconsin. fortunately, they explained the situtation to their programs and ended up together.

lastly, when you couples match, interview and rank more places.

good luck

yes - as has been mentioned, make sure you both couple (couple status will read as "accepted") in NRMP. i would also second the notion of applying to more programs and doing more interviews. you may get in somewhere together, but sometimes it's hard to find choices that both you and your partner will want to rank in a similar way. my wife basically vetoed one of my higher choices, and we had to compromise some in our 2-5 linked rankings, but fortunately we had a common #1, and got in there
