For several reasons, I can cannot take Bio second semester at my college next semester. I am hoping to be able to take it in the summer at a university in my hometown, but I cannot figure out what course it is I should take.

This semester, I took Bio 165. The course catalog says, "Heredity and Evolution: An introduction to the scientific study of life with an emphasis on evolution, ecology, and classical genetics. The nature and practice of science will be examined throughout the course. For prospective pre-health-profession students and science majors."

The pre-med comittee says my next semester should be Bio 185 which is, "Cells and Systems: An introduction to the scientific study of life with emphasis on the chemistry of life, cells, and physiology. For prospective natural science majors."

I emailed the registrar to see what course at the other university is the equivalent to Bio 185, and he gave me a 300 course. This seems a bit off to me.

Would anyone mind trying to help me find what course I should take for med school/ the MCAT. I really need to figure this out because there is a lot of paperwork I have to have the Bio department at my college fill out before mid-December.

I'm looking to take the summer course here. (I've been searching under the Summer 2009 courses since the Summer 2010 isn't posted yet. I am guessing/hoping the course listing will stay the same.)

Thanks so much for anyone helps! I know this is long, I am just in need of help.

the problem with biology is there are alot of courses lol
biology 2 for most schools is ecology, embryology, physiology, botany, and kingdoms and evolution
you can honestly take any biology course to fill the requirement
microbiology,molecularbiology/cellular biology, general biology
and for the mcat, most people tell me that they mostly just open up a review book and obtain ALL the biology they need from their reviewing
which i can honestly say is very viable because biology is just understanding concepts and memorization of other things
so at your hometown college just take a biology course that interests you

Every college has a different system for courses offered, especially for bio because it's such a broad subject. I would listen to your pre-med advisor.

Gah, okay thanks guys. I don't know what to take now! For the university that I am going to in the summer, their website has a list of Bio pre-med courses.

240 Unity of Life
242 Diversity of Life
244 Principles of Biology Lab
329 Cell & Molecular Biology

Should I just take one of those then? I am scared of messing this up and not taking the right course. I know Bio will be my low part of the MCAT, so I am just nervous about this.

I guess I'll go to my Bio teacher and ask him what he recommends for the other university, but I know he won't be very happy about it.

i'd recommend cell & molecular biology
and dont worry
biology on the mcat is while difficult im sure you can if you put in alot of self-study will manage

That's what the registrar told me. The only thing is, for that Bio at the other university, they have two prereqs that I obviously have not taken. I know it varies from college to college, but would I be able to take that course without the prereqs considering it is my college's equivalent course?

Thanks everyone for the help. I was really stressed about this.
