I'm about to sign up for classes next semester and I'm planning to take o-chem1 with the lab, gen bio 1, and a statistics class. All of this is only 13 credits. I'm debating if i should take physics or not because of the small course load of only 13 credits. if i do take physics it will be 17 credits and I think it might be to much especially when i think o-chem is going to take up all my studying time. Do schools look down on light course load?

hm! Yes organic itself is a hard work and needs a lot of attention. So I don't really recommend you to do that. I remember I had a full load course including O-chem, Anatomy, Physiology, and Stats and some others and It didn't go well for me (but I did well on my DAT). So My recommendation is if you can take a lower course load.
Keep in mind that I have taken all years(except last year which I didn;t need to) fill course load and I think your GPA is really important (and also extracur.) Can't you take 13 credit Fall semester and 15 credit winter so it will be close to 30 credit?

Okay now I'm thinking about dropping stats and substituting physics. Which means o-chem 1, bio 1, and physics, and a side dish of o-chem lab for a total of 14 credits. Maybe I'll take stats somewhere in my junior year. Not sure if taking o-chem, bio, and physics in one semester is good though and if 14 credits is considered a full course load.

Everything is doable but the best thing is to be realistic and judge whether you "can" and "want" to challenge this. I never took all my prerequesites together except my first year having bio and gen chem. But as long as you have a good discipline you should be fine!

Pre-dental normally takes physics 1/2 on their 4th year, It's not on DAT, why take it now? hmmm

Don't sacrifice your GPA just to impress adcoms with a heavier course load.

Don't do that. I took Ochem 2 with lab, with Bio 2 and practically died.
And Physics is relatively easy, but requires serious work.

I would say stick to Ochem 1 with lab, and Bio 1 and Stats. Don't take Physics with Bio and Orgo, cus those classes already require a ton of memorization.

Personally I wouldn't take orgo and physics together. That's just me though. The person above me said they had trouble while taking bio and orgo together, personally I thought orgo was cake for me, and our school's chem department is apparently difficult. But physics was a freakin nightmare, my worst subject in all of undergrad so far was physics. Again, it's really just up to the person though. And each school is different in their difficulty for courses sometimes.

My advice is use ratemyprofessor.com and check out the teachers that you are planning to take, see what other people say about them and go from there. Challenging yourself always looks great, but at the same time withdrawing or doing poorly in a class doesn't lol.

Good luck to you, hope that helped some lol

I graduated in 2012 without any of the pre-reqs and wanted to be able to apply this cycle so I had to take 3 pre reqs at a time. Spring semester I took Orgo 2, Bio 2 and Physics 1. It was a lot of work timewise but it wasn't terribly difficult material wise. Its important to be able to guage your own academic discipline, if you have the mindset that you will do what you need to do then you should be fine. Good luck!
