Hi!

I have a question for my fellow aspiring Veterinarians.

I just returned to school at 24 years of age. I'm am my county's Community College now retaking a bunch of classes because I didn't take them seriously the first time around. Currently I have a 2.18 and that's an improvement from what I had last year around now, which was like 1.3 or something - terrible. I have two semesters to go before I apply for a 4 year school and by then I project my GPA to be around 2.7-3.0.

Anyway, So far I've taken nothing but general educational courses plus a few other things because I changed my major so many times. So far I have not taken any college level sciences and when I transfer over I should be in my Sophomore year.

I typed all of this to give you a little background on myself. I was wondering since I didn't start a Pre-Vet-like program from freshmen year, I was wondering about my course load.

I know you guys are guidance counselors, I'm just asking for opinions since all I'm assuming most of you all have taken a year or two of Vet-related course. If you were to cram them into a smaller period of time with no electives or anything to give you a break, would you go crazy?

I'm planning on getting in and going straight through. My only two breaks are going to be winter break, because I don't think I can attend courses during that short time and when I graduate because I feel I've definately earned it. From your experience would any of you think I'd be crazy to go with this plan?

Thanks in advance!

I guess I'm a little confused...are you planning on trying to do the pre-reqs in one year or two? Two is definitely doable, one is not. I think there's another recent thread that addressed this (the difference between 1 & 2 years for pre-reqs), if you want more info.

I want to do it in in about 2 years.

And I'll look for the thread you mentioned. Is it in Pre-vet, I skim a few of the threads already and must've missed it if it is.

Thanks!

It can be done in 2 years, I'm doing it now and it requires a lot of sacrifice (especially if you're also working).

Judging by your projected GPA after all this, I would say concentrate on getting straight A's (this is a must to show a definite positive trend for you), so if you have to sacrifice a couple of A's to speed up the process, don't do it. Cut back so that you can get straight A's!! It's very easy to lose track of your priorities. First and foremost is to get good grades.

Also, make sure you do very well on your GRE to help balance out your GPA.

Good luck and stick with it!
