Hi everyone, I just have a quick question that i could use some help on. This semester I am currently enrolled in 15 credits, I am a little concerned about it being to light of a course load. Although its not that many credits, the classes are pretty difficult. I am taking O-chem 2, Genetics, an upper level psychology class and spanish. Towards the end of this semester, I am also going to start studying very hard for the DAT which could make a lighter course load beneficial. My question is, will a "lighter" course load like this be frowned upon by dental schools or will it not be a big deal? thanks in advance!

I think that course load is fine. 2 tough science courses paired with an easier class i.e. Spanish/psych course. Only take more courses if you have done so in the past otherwise it well blow up in your face. Its not worth looking awesome on paper by taking allot of credits and science classes only to get"ok"grades in them (B).

That's a pretty decent load actually. Especially if you plan on studying for DAT. I think you're fine sticking with that. 15 credits is a good amount.

I think its fine enough of a schedule, but I'd drop Spanish unless its your native language or your comfy in it. Language classes take too much time and require a lot of hw to do well, they might also lower your overall GPA. If you dropped it and had 12 credits then you can probably guarantee yourself a 3.7 to 4.0 semester and be comfortable. No need to overload on a class that wont add anything to d-school admission process.

I have only taken 12-15 credits every semester during college but I have had work, pre-dental club, service activities, etc. A dental school needs to feel confident that you can handle the work load required. If you have been doing other things besides school that require lots of time then that definitely helps your case. High GPA is definitely the priority here.

Almost every semester for 4 and a half years I took 13 credit hours which meant my major courses (nutrition) and one science class (one semester i did 12 with just 3 science classes) and worked minimum 20 hours a week. I didn't have any schools ask me about my course load but as waldo and wired pointed out they liked my high GPA so I can tell you from experience that is important to schools. At most of my interviews some talk came up about good grades so I felt confident. Study hard for that DAT and you will do well good luck!
