Looking for some advice on how vet schools would view this:

I enrolled in 16 hours this semester, including a class that has no effect on my major and takes up about 12 hours a week for 3 hours credit (took it for fun & easy A). With several difficult classes and club commitments taking up time, I'm considering dropping it, but it would go on my transcript as a withdrawal (my first). I'm applying to vet school this semester. Do you think it would look bad to schools when they get my transcript for the fall that I've withdrawn from a class like this?

Overall I dont think its going to be a real problem. Youll explain it on your application and that will be that. Some schools I believe will average in a 0 when they calculate your GPA but I think thats the exception and not the rule.

No, I'm sure schools wouldn't frown if you withdrew from a class that has nothing to do with your major, but I can't say from experience. But I guess if I were you, I would still take the class if the real reason you took it was for fun. Yes, it may take up some time during the week, but it might be a nice break from your more difficult classes. Also, are you sure it would show up this early on your transcript as a W? Where I went to undergrad, you usually had a few weeks (month?) into classes to withdraw before it would show up as a W.

I withdrew from a lab that I didn't need that was taking up too much time last fall. I didn't even get asked about it in my interviews. I wouldn't worry too much.

I withdrew from a class during my senior year that didn't have much to do with my degree. I just wasn't interested in studying plants and had too many other commitments. This showed up as a withdrawl on my transcript but didn't hurt my acceptances last year. I wouldn't worry about it too much just as long as your other grades are good and you still took full course loads during the other terms.
