Hello all,
I recently graduated from a top 20 public college and had some questions regarding withdrawals, repeats, etc... I read in the FAQ on here that for course repeats only the best final grade is counted at D.O. schools. The reason I ask is that initially I started out at a smaller university and for the first 2 years had a 3.4 gpa. However, during my third year I kept registering for classes, but not finishing them due to some personal problems in my life. Since the school counts incompletes as F's my gpa dropped down to a 2.1. Therefore, I have a whole year of incompletes on my record. I transferred to the top 20 public school and finished at that school with a 3.1. When I was screwing up like an idiot and not finishing courses that third year at my first college I kept registering for the same courses all three quarters. Therefore, if it is true that repeats are only counted once at D.O. schools then I could theoretically just go back for one quarter and get A's(these were cake business classes) and boost my gpa back up to a competitive level. Could someone who is informed about this please explain the situation to me. I contacted the school and they told me it would be possible to petition to have these courses not counted in my gpa, but the grades(X's) would still remain. If this happened would the D.O. schools still count the grades? If so I might be better off to just go retake the courses as opposed to petitioning for the not counting in my gpa deal.
Any help would be appreciated.

Your institution-reported GPA means nothing as far as I know. Although I do know that if it's below a certain threshold it may be difficult to graduate with a bachelor's degree.

Therefore, retaking the courses is the correct course of action to assure a good AACOMAS GPA.

Please wait for other responses that may have further insight seeing as I may be making a false assumption.

I had to retake two classes. My aacomas gpa only counted the higher of the grades toward my aacomas science, overall GPA. They do not average the two grades like amcas does. Hope that answers your question. You also should petition those classes you flunked out of. I think you will still be ok. Good luck dude.
