Hey all,

I am taking orgo/orgo lab/biochem for premed reqs next year and taking the MCAT immediately following.

As a current Humanities major, I am interested in majoring in Bio - with the premed reqs I've already taken it's possible by adding only 2 classes to my schedule next year (genetics and cell bio) which i've heard are helpful for the MCAT anyway.

I'm concerned for my mental health however, as second semester I would be taking orgo/orgo lab/biochem/genetics or cell bio/12 hrs research/lots of ECs + MCAT prep for that May. Doable or just a bad idea???? I need to get my sGPA up so I can't afford bad grades due to overworking myself...but I need more science classes...but I also need to get a good MCAT score to make up for aforementioned low sGPA...will taking these classes help me on the MCAT enough to compensate for all the extra classwork...?...HELP!!!

i'm currently taking 25 hours and studying for the mcat for april. i'll come back in may and tell you how i did. lol

I am taking (quarter system) Ochem 2, Ochem lab 1, Physics 3 (calculus based), and somali foreign language. It is 17 qtr hours. The first half of the quarter I drilled the MCAT hardcore and was a little lax with my classes so I started to ease up on the MCAT and recover my classes. I scored a 33 on my first AAMC practice test and right now I am 99% sure I will get an A in physics and somali, however I have some ground to cover with the ochem courses but will probably end up with a B or B+ in both. That being said, it has been a tough quarter but definitely managable. I think it just depends on how well you handle a lot of work and especially how well you already understand the MCAT material before reviewing.

Forgot to mention that I will be testing in April also.

thanks!!! i handle a lot of work pretty well (had to get my s*** in gear after poor freshman year grades) but my ECs are veeeery time-consuming, which is really what i'm worried about. also the fact that those poor grades are still haunting me, as i will basically have to relearn gchem from scratch plus probably physics. blegh
