Hi all,

I have taken courses through my programs Public Health academic department that are biology-based, ie Medical Virology. Will AMCAS throw these out of my BCPM GPA since they are not offered through a "biology" department?

If so, my science GPA is in trouble 😡

I'm in a similar situation as a fellow Public Health student. But as long as they accept your categorizations on your individual course listings, I think AMCAS will include it in the calculations.

Of course, individual schools may take note of where your scores came from. From what I've heard, Public Health is helpful when trying to demonstrate being well-rounded and aware of various systematic and humanitarian issues, but it's not considered particularly selective or difficult.

Is over 50% of the material real biology? If so, you can list it as a science course. Department doesn't matter (ie: I'm going to list psych stats as a math class despite being given by the psych department).

Oh yes, upwards of 95% of the material is real biology. I did a double take when I saw that my Medical Micro and Virology courses were listed as public health
