Hi,
I graduated with a nursing degree, and many of my previous nursing classes included clinical of course. For example, an Adult Health I class is 7 credit. It includes lecture 3 times a week along with attending clinical twice a week for 6 hours.

Does the clinical portion of my class be considered as "combine lecture and lab" when I entered it under coursework in AMCAS? If so, should I also type in "and Lab" with the course name?

Thanks!!

Yes, and type the course exactly how it appears on the transcripts.

I would be careful about some of your classes. I go to a state school and chemistry is actually divided into two different catagories "Nursing Chem" or "Pre-Med Chem". Many classes are like this. Make sure you take the correct difficulty(?) course or else med school may not consider it at all. Nothing worse then dropping a few grand on applications and med schools not recognizing your hard work!

Onwards!

Thanks, appreciate your help. I called AMCAS. They said regarding my classes in nursing program, if they included clinicals, I can add "and Lab" to the course name. And also clicked, "combined lab and lecture."

Thanks! Yes I've already taken all the "pre-med Chemistry" and everything required for med schools. However, it was the nursing programs classes which I was referring to. The nursing program's classes were included in the course work section & transcript. 80% of them required clinical at least twice a week at diff hospitals. They were all health classes such as Adult Health I, Medical-Surigcal, Women's Health, and Pediatrics, etc.

Thanks anyway, I've spoken to AMAS already. Hopeefully it'll run smooth.

I have a similar question. In the sixth year of pharmacy school I have clinical rotations that are registered for as classes through my institution. These are pretty similar to med school rotations where I round with the medical team, do write ups, blah blah blah. Should these be listed as lectures or labs? I mean they are definitely not labs in the traditional sense of the word but they are certainly not lectures...😕

I called again yesterday & spoke with an AMCAS rep to verify. She basically said anything that is "hands-on" is considered as "lab." So, if you're doing med rounds or clinical work, it is considered as a lab. If it was only clinical rotations without the lecture, it'll be classified as lab.

Also, if it's a lecture that has clinical rotations with it, then it's "combined lecture & lab." Make sure you type in the course name exactly like the transcript and add the phrase "and lab." She said having the correct course name is important to match the transcript, but also classifying it is also important.
